One of the only things that’s going to drag me from my house on this rainy, wet Wednesday, is that I’ve decided that today I’m going to be a very typical Brit and go and get my lunch from the new M&S Food Store that has just opened in Wanchai. My British Facebook friends have been all abuzz with the exciting news of the opening, and I know that the aisles will be full of homesick expats seeking out their chocolate biscuit or BLT fix. The prices are sure to be outrageous (let’s face it, M&S is overpriced even in the UK) but sometimes it’s the small luxuries that can make one the happiest. I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll have some of the great ready meals that they’re so known for, which are super-convincing if you want to have people round for dinner and pretend you actually cooked yourself, and I’m definitely going to need some jams and sweets too! My burgeoning waist band is certainly not going to be thanking M&S by this evening! The store is only 1400 square feet, so I need to not get too excited, but I can’t help but be in a good mood as I’m looking forward to my trip.
**Update – headed to M&S Food this afternoon and while the shop is small, the shelves are being well-stacked, despite the fact that it is incredibly busy. They have sandwiches and a small selection of fresh salads, some of their ready meals and pizzas, tons of sweets and biscuits, and some cold deli meats, yoghurts etc. I’m pretty impressed with the selection considering the size!**
