Sofar Sounds Makes Its Way to Hong Kong

Live music enthusiasts, rejoice!

There’s a new player on the Hong Kong live music scene, and it’s all about being shrouded in as much mystery as possible (and we love it)! Sofar Sounds has arrived in Hong Kong and we’ve got the lowdown on how you can be a part of this global movement.

What is it?

Born in London in 2009, and currently in more than 300 cities worldwide, Sofar Sounds aims to bring the magic back to live music by hosting an intimate audience of 30 to 40 people in secret locations around the city with a undisclosed line up of local talent. The mystery surrounding the venue and the artists just adds to the night’s fun, since you’ll never really know what you’re in for. Who doesn’t want a spot of unpredictability in their routine lives?

Brought to our city by a team of fans who experienced a show somewhere else in the world (and who fell in love with it!), Sofar Sounds Hong Kong hopes to encourage local artists and performers and bring together a community of music lovers under one (often eclectic) roof. Never thought you’d hear live music sitting in a paint jamming studio? Sofar is here to make that kind of experience the new normal!

When is it?

Sofar Sounds Hong Kong has already had two gigs in 2017 (you can check its photos out here), and is well on its way to hosting the next show on Wednesday, 20 September in Sai Ying Pun (that’s all we can tell you about the venue!). This one is extra special, as it will be in conjunction with the worldwide Give a Home campaign, a partnership between Sofar Sounds and Amnesty International in support of more than 20 million refugees worldwide. The Sofar community will be out in full force (300 gigs in one day in 60 countries!); you’re going to want to be a part of this global event!

How do I sign up?

There are a few steps to getting a spot at the next Sofar Sounds gig, but we promise it’s worth it! Head over to the Sofar Sounds website and register for an upcoming gig in Hong Kong – this will put you on a waitlist of attendees. The Sofar team will then be in touch with an invite where you can confirm your (and your +1’s) attendance, and you’ll be on your way experiencing the show! The Sofar Sounds team carefully curates the audience to ensure diversity and an opportunity for newcomers to experience Sofar for themselves, so do be warned that registering for the gig doesn’t automatically guarantee a spot. However, this way, you know that a show you’ll attend will never be the same as any other, and each time you’ll experience a whole new Sofar Sounds.
