Hotel China: Behind Every Door There’s a Story

12 March, 2010

Hotel China is a new book created by the Hong Kong Writer’s Circle – containing 26 short stories about the (mostly seedy) underbelly of an unnamed 4 star Wanchai business hotel, which from the outside might look respectable and ab0ve-board, but once we take a sneak peek behind closed doors, reveals its many secrets. From hotel guests to bellboys, cleaners and prostitutes, all the stories in this book are filled with richly developed characters whose tales build momentum until it feels as though everyone is up to no good. Behind all the individual stories, the sullied heroine of the book is really the city of Hong Kong itself. Painted as at once both gritty and glamorous, a hot bed of power, money and intrigue, this is the Hong Kong most of us only sense is out there.

From murders to marriages, from espionage adventures to lovers’ trysts and the chilling tale of the start of a pandemic, this anthology will provide you with plenty of excitement and intrigue without having to leave the comfort of your armchair.

The authors include some of Hong Kong’s finest writers such as Joy Al-Sofi, Michael A. Ashton, Hollie Allman, Elisabeth Attwood, Mike Bishop, Alan Brown, Sarah Crosby, Mio Debnam, Leela Devi Panikar, Stefanie Dubois, Lawrence Gray, Ian Greenfield, Peter Gregoire, Ryan Harper, Melanie Ho, Noble Hughes, Lorraine McLelland, SCC Overton, Edmund Price, Cate Rocchi, Valerie Wilson Trower and Jane Wallace.
