From a virtual cocktail-making workshop with COA’s Jay Khan to live-streamed cooking classes with Arcane’s Shane Osborn and VEA’s Vicky Cheng, this year’s Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival has plenty to look forward to…

Calling all foodies! It’s that time of year again when the gourmands of Hong Kong unite for a gastronomic celebration of epic proportions. That’s right, the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival is back, albeit with an online twist. Think virtual wine and spirit talks with the likes of COA’s Jay Khan, foodie workshops led by celebrated Hong Kong chefs (including Vicky Cheng, who will kick off the first of 34 online masterclasses with a scallop dish), Gourmet at Home Menus, to be enjoyed from the comfort of your living room, and so much more, all running alongside a selection of offline events set in your favourite restaurants across the city. Taking place from now until Tuesday, 15 December, this is your chance to eat, drink and be merry (go on, you deserve it!), and maybe even learn something new along the way.

Ahead of the online festivities, we got a sneak peek at the virtual lineup, and to say that we’re excited is an understatement. All the online programmes are free to join, and many even come with the option of pre-ordering a kit of food or drinks (starting from $150) so you can join in the fun at home. Keep reading for our pick of the highlights.

Champagne Masterclass

Ever wondered what on earth goes on at a wine tasting? Or perhaps you’re a drinks connoisseur looking to expand your knowledge into the realm of Champagne, gin and tequila? The Festival’s virtual wine and spirit talks are just the thing for you. Highlights include a workshop on all things bubbles with Master of Wine Sarah Heller, where you’ll learn how to discern between different styles of Champagne, as well as two spirits masterclasses – one centred on gin and the other tequila – in which industry heavyweights Jay Khan and Brass Lion Distillery founder Jamie Koh will teach you how to make your very own cocktails. And for those with a penchant for wine, don’t miss internationally-acclaimed wine critic James Suckling’s live wine tasting, spotlighting Bordeaux wines!

Arcane

Perhaps you consider yourself more of a foodie? Well, look no further than The Festival’s live-streamed cooking classes, where you can cook along with the city’s top culinary talents. From Shane Osborn’s Pan Seared Ora King Salmon with Taiyouran Egg Sauce Gribiche, to Roganic’s Three Yellow Chicken, Punjabi Dhaba Chicken Curry from CHAAT, La Rambla’s signature Paella and more, you’ll be a master chef in no time. Keep an eye out for the all-female line-up on Saturday, 28 November featuring Sassy favourites Shirley Kwok (founder of The Cakery) and TATE’s Vicky Lau, among others.

Beyond virtual masterclasses, other events to look forward to include the Online Wine Cellar, where you can discover and shop from over 100 wine merchants from across the globe with exclusive discounts of up to 50%, as well as limited-edition Gourmet at Home menus from the city’s most sought-after hotels and restaurants (including Duddell’s, Rosewood and Kerry Hotel), available to order for delivery. As if that wasn’t enough, The Festival will also be treating us to a curated selection of mouth-watering deals from over 500 dining destinations!
