Delicious Veggie Dishes in HK
Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan or following Green Monday, sometimes it can be a struggle in Hong Kong to know where to go for a meat-free meal. As a veggie, I can’t count the number of times people have asked me, “is it difficult following your diet?”. There are even times when I’ve missed out on invites to a restaurant chosen by my mates because it can’t accommodate vegetarians. But having lived in Hong Kong for the past 15 years as a vegetarian, I’m now confident that this city can be veggie-friendly!
Below you’ll find a list of my Top 5 Veggie Dishes in Hong Kong, which don’t limit my dining choices to a sad salad or a strictly buddhist meal. There is something delicious and veggie friendly for everyone out there! Take any meat-free munchie you know to these establishments and they’re sure to find a dish to keep them happy.
Kikusaan, Landmark
This has been an under the radar favourite with dim-sum lovers for some time. With dim sum priced less than $60 and sochu cocktails at $48 for all-day dining ,it’s also a great affordable option! Why aren’t you lining up already? They do some mean vegetarian dumplings in chilli oil and my only advice would be to avoid the lunch crowd and go in for happy hour or an early dinner. Apart from dumplings, they also have a vegetarian udon with tempura and several other delights.

Teakha II, Sai Ying Pun
As a huge fan of teakha in Tai Ping Shan (especially of their Thai Milk Tea), I was extremely excited to know that they had opened a new location near the new HKU MTR station… and it has a brunch menu! The brunch menu includes tasty dishes such as a grilled cheese sandwich with granny smith apples, shakshuka, a tea-smoked egg on pearl barley and even the classic avocado eggs benny! I could sit here for hours with a book or chatting with my girlfriends.

Thai Vegetarian Food, Kowloon City
If you’re a fan of hole-in-the-wall joints, then this little spot in the middle of Kowloon City is a must try. This is a no reservation, grab your plastic stool and eat kind of place, but the menu definitely makes up for the rushed dining experience! Choose from a whole list of purely vegetarian Thai food; my favourite is the basil fried rice with vegetarian chicken, with a young coconut to wash it down.

Topiary, Central
How often are you made to eat fries or peanuts along with your drinks, for a lack of vegetarian bar snacks? Topiary in Central has a great list of cocktails that I can save for another conversation, because along with those drinks they have a menu full of vegetarian canapés. From nachos to vegetarian tonkatsu sandwiches, sit back and nibble on these delicious veggie bites on the terrace as you overlook the hustle and bustle of Soho.

C’est La B Ms. B Cakery, Harbour City & Pacific Place
You’ve probably tried the infamous Better than Sex cake from Ms. B Cakery, but if you’re looking for an afternoon lunch or tea spot you should definitely try out C’est La B, which has a branch on either side of the harbour. The amazing truffle mac ‘n’ cheese is served like a pot pie, and the vegetarian rainbow sandwich is delicious along with the wide variety of salads. Have I mentioned how good their tea-sets are too?

Le Garcon Saigon, Wan Chai
When you’re looking for a date night restaurant that suits your diet but is a great place to get to know someone new – head over to Le Garcon Saigon! Their food is not only fresh and delicious, but the fun and playful element is a great conversation filler for any awkward silences… you can wrap your own rolls and tuck into tasty hedgehog mushrooms, which won’t make you miss meat at all! Don’t forget to save space for their interesting dessert menu, too.
