UPDATE: Beautifood has just opened a new location in Central! Get all the deets at the bottom of the article…
Lunch for me often goes one of two ways: pre-planned and healthy, or whatever is easiest to grab on the go (often dictated by my workload and energy levels).
With this in mind, you can imagine my excitement when I found out that Beautifood, who previously only offered their salads via pre-order and delivery on their website (see my earlier review here!), have now opened a standalone store in Wan Chai.
Inspired by local flavours, the Beautifood concept is the brainchild of two Michelin-star “Demon Chef” Alvin Leung of Bo Innovation. Proving quality and convenience doesn’t need to be compromised, the new store offers a range of fresh, healthy, nutritious and light meal options, expanding on their original small selection of five salads.
Keen to see what all the fuss was about, I recently swung by to grab lunch (typically – not to mention, unsurprisingly – I was in a rush to get back to the office). The menu is broken up into two main categories: gourmet salads and sushi burritos. To get a taste of everything, I decided to order an Umami Nicoise salad, some 3B (beef & black bean) sushi burritos, and a vegetarian taco trio. Each dish got 10 points on the freshness front; the baby prawns in the salad were complemented by light and flavoursome mesclun leaves, the sushi burritos were really tasty (although they do have a distinct aroma so probably best not to eat these at your desk if you want to stay friends with your colleagues), and the tacos – roasted pumpkin with cream cheese, eggplant with yellow miso, and porcini mushrooms with onion cream – were moist and juicy without being soggy.
Next time, I’ll probably just grab a salad and burrito combo (which consists of a salad of your choice plus half a sushi burrito for $68 –a San Pelligrino drink can be thrown into the mix for an extra $10) as I probably ordered one dish too many!
Everything at Beautifood is available in dine-in or takeaway form (see cute take-out window above!). Healthy, convenient and put together in true Beautifood style, it’s worth swinging by if you’re ever in the neighbourhood and is a great new option for us Wan Chai office workers!
