ZALORA – the new e-boutique on the block

2 August, 2012

Every morning I wake up and check my Google Reader to stay updated with all my fave blogs (including Sassy of course!) and all the world’s news… but mostly the blogs! Well, recently a new ad caught my attention and I clicked on over to see what was going on. ZALORA, a new clothes website recently launched in Hong Kong, is advertising everywhere and it turns out that it is actually a great site where you can find loads of brands at affordable prices (be sure to check out the under $250 section)!

There are some familiar brands (BCBG, Vero Moda, House Of Harlow) and plenty more new ones, all waiting to be discovered! I’ve scattered the page with a few of my favourite finds so you can see what ZALORA has in store for you.

VeroModa Lorry Dress ($339), BCBG Generation ColourBlock Dress ($1109), Estelle Peplum Dress ($493)

We had a chat with Wendy Tang, from their PR team, to find out more about ZALORA, how they source their brands and what she sees as the next big trends!

How did ZALORA come about? What is the inspiration for site?
ZALORA is actually the sister site of ZALANDO, Germany’s largest online shoes and fashion retailer. After experiencing tremendous success across the world, the business expanded to South East Asia last year under the name of ZALORA. We now operate in Singapore (where Zalora’s headquarters are), Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand… and Hong Kong, the newest baby in the group, which was launched in April 2012!

How do you select what brands to stock?
Hong Kong currently cross-lists all of its products from our other sites; therefore we only have limited control over what brands to sell, and as we are new, we are still testing the market. Nevertheless, because of our global network of a total of 15 affiliated sites, we have hundreds of international brands that we can offer to our customers, including the labels exclusive to the group.

Not all international brands can be cross-listed due to territory restrictions but we strive to provide as many choices as possible to our customers. New brands are also added constantly. Check here to see our list of current brands.

Mitju Criss-Cross Wedges ($156.62), Evie Snakeskin Collar Necklace ($142), Sense 1991 Heels ($1009)

Who do you see as your ideal customer?
Fashion-loving individuals from all walks of life really! Thanks to the diverse range of products we offer, you can go from a HK$3000 pair of heels to a HK$59.90 pair of ballet pumps. No order is too big or small for us.

Although we currently stock both women’s and menswear, we plan to also include children’s items in the future.

What words best describe ZALORA?
Affordable, trendy, hip, international, great customer service and free shipping!

What is the next step for ZALORA?
We want to provide an even broader selection of items and brands to cater for all your different needs and desires, as well as expand to other countries in South East Asia.

What is the must-have item or trend of the summer?
Pastel colours and prints, for sure. My personal key item for this summer is a floral print maxi dress in some pastel shades.

Mileti Halter With Knots Bikini (top $314, bottoms $429), Mel Accessories Printed Denim Bag ($279), Mileti Simple Bandeau Bikini (top $329, bottoms $394)

SASSY DEAL: Sassy readers can get a 10% discount off ZALORA orders until 31 August, 2012! Simply enter the code SASSY1BI at checkout to get 10% off your purchase – and there’s no minimum spend either!
