Clockenflap, Hong Kong’s annual music and arts festival is upon us once again. With a stunning view of the harbour, great music and a fun atmosphere, this is arguably one of the best weekends in Hong Kong! Apart from all the talent, there’s a range of fun activities and pop-ups, including a silent disco, a craft market and let’s not forget all the fab food vendors (check out Clockenflap’s Facebook for more updated info). We’re personally looking forward to trying the authentic, handmade bagels from Bagoes – perfect for a midday lunch, with a cheeky beer or cider to accompany it of course…
Bringing top notch music and entertainment from around the world to the West Kowloon Cultural District, this year’s headliners include the likes of The Flaming Lips, Kool and the Gang and Mogwai. But big names aside, there is a plethora of talent waiting to be discovered, so to guide your wandering ears, Sassy has put together the A – E of our top musical picks.
Belgium DJ/producer and remixer extraordinaire, Aeroplane (aka Vito De Luca), has worked his magic on various artists over the years, from The Beach Boys to Charlie XOX, whilst also creating his own blend of 80s disco pop. Having received praise from the great and good in the dance world, he is sure to get hips shaking and heads nodding.
Perfect for: Dancing your pants off!

Chinese trio Birdstriking make their Hong Kong debut at Clockenflap this winter. A regular on the underground indie scene in Beijing, their chaotic, punk rock sound has attracted both local and international attention. Having recently toured with Brian Jonestown Massacre in the UK, more is no doubt in store for this noisy but nice bunch.
Perfect for: Hurling yourself around in the mosh pit…
Demo tape: Magpie.
Scottish trio Chvches are arguably one of the coolest bands in the world right now. With debut album ‘The Bones of What You Believe’ hitting top twenty chart positions on both sides of the Atlantic, it’s no wonder they have been playing every festival under the sun this summer. With the added excitement of potentially hearing some new material, put Chvches on your must-see list.
Perfect for: Showing how hip you are 🙂

Deserts Xuan & Algae
Taiwanese singer songwriter Deserts Xuan is a dreamy addition to the Clockenflap bill. Her haunting voice and melodies have been delighting audiences for the past decade and her talents have afforded her some of the most coveted awards in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. With support from band mates Algae, her traditionally acoustic coffee house-style will be beautifully transformed for the festival crowd.
Perfect for: Sharing a romantic moment…

Filipino house DJ Eyedress, is set to be a real highlight this festival. His melancholic, ghostly electronic music has seen him transform from bedroom producer to recently signed artist with UK label XL. Much talked about in British music press as a one to watch, Eyedress is an intriguing artist, ready to seduce the Clockenflap crowd.
Perfect for: Enjoying a beer while sitting out on the grass…
