Sense Of Touch – The Sweetest Hangover treatment review

17 August, 2011
I’ve always heard great things about Sense Of Touch spas but have thus far remained a Sense Of Touch-virgin – so I was delighted to get the opportunity to check out their new Sweetest Hangover treatment and see what all the fuss was about!

The branch I visited is nestled right in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong, hence explaining some of their signature boozy-but-blissful treatments (which include beer, sake and wine baths!). However, the latest addition to the range – The Sweetest Hangover – is more for the morning after the night before… or if you’re particularly hardcore, you could simply rock up to Sense Of Touch following a night (and early morning!) out on the tiles and detox away all your worst excesses!

The Sweetest Hangover is a two hour treatment designed to detox, re-energise and refresh so it’s perfect for anyone feeling a bit run-down or over-indulged, alcoholic or otherwise! I’ve been suffering from a few too many late nights and midnight feasts (as my bloated tummy and panda eyes will no doubt attest), and this did the trick wonderfully!

Things kicked off with a relaxing twenty-minute soak in a bath full of hand-harvested organic Irish seaweed. Although this did make me feel a little like an extra in The Little Mermaid, seaweed is actually renowned for its therapeutic properties and is packed with easy-to-absorb proteins, vitamins and minerals. Frankly, I was just excited to be having a bath full stop! Most HK apartments don’t have room for a bathtub and having a happy wallow in the lovely warm waters was a treat in itself!

Next up was an exfoliating organic sugar cane scrub infused with peppermint, rubbed across the whole body. The sensation was stimulating rather than abrasive and, although things get a bit sticky by the end, you’re left with glowingly soft skin once the residue is showered off.

Then it’s onto a soothing ocean essence massage, featuring the world’s first organic essential oil of seaweed, plus lavender, peppermint and lemongrass ones too. This lasts sixty minutes but it flies by all too soon! It’s ultra-calming, super-soothing and wonderfully-relaxing and you can just feel all your tensions melt away under the therapist’s massaging hands. The head massage, in particular, was amazing; I never wanted to leave!

Finally, the treatment is completed with an aromatic fennel and chamomile tea with honey, which speeds up your metabolism, aids digestion and detoxification and most importantly, tastes rather yummy too! All the products used during The Sweetest Hangover are from Voya, a pioneering organic skincare brand from Ireland, and you can purchase them (even including the teabags) from the shop inside Sense Of Touch – which also sells jewellery, nail polish and make-up. Spa PLUS shopping?! Well, I’m sold!

The staff are wonderful, always checking to make sure everything is as comfortable for you as possible – whether that’s the temperature of the room, the water or the pressure of the massage, plus offering drinks (don’t worry, non-alcoholic!) throughout.

Overall, I emerged feeling fantastic, ready to float away onto the nearest cloud (alas, I was emerging into a thunderstorm in the middle of rush hour, but never mind). My limbs felt light and supple, I felt serene but simultaneously invigorated and all feelings of stress and discomfort had eased away. My skin, now wonderfully-hydrated, probably hasn’t been this soft since leaving the womb! I swear my tummy even looked flatter and tighter too!

With any luck, I’ll be back at Sense Of Touch very soon – and I expect to see all of you there too!

The Sweetest Hangover is currently on promotion until 15th September for $1290 for 2 hours and normally costs $1590.
