H&M Pre-Fall Collection 2012 – razzle dazzle ’em!

What shop do you go in no matter if you need something or not…. and always seem to leave with something too? It’s H&M, of course – our girly go-to for all things fast-fash! I recently popped by the showroom to see what would be on racks pre-Fall and boy was I amazed. H&M has taken its cues straight from the runway and delivered them to your neighbourhood branch!

Nearly everything was bedazzled. Upon entering, I found myself attracted like a magpie to one item, and then flitting over to the next to gaze on a mass of glittery stones and beads. Shoulders sparkled, necklines gleamed, frocks flickered… The entire place turned into a discotheque with the abundance of sequins and spotlights!

I loved the shiny threads running through this very Jackie O style suit. This could easily be broken into separates to get more wear out of the pieces – try the jacket with skinny jeans and a white t-shirt, whilst the skirt would be gorgeous with an animal print blouse and a clutch for dinner.

My favourite was this abstract animal print sequin dress. In summertime, I can see this worn belted and paired with a thin-strap stiletto and a ponytail, while it would be amazing loose over black leather leggings and a white crisp Oxford shirt in fall. Rach’s fave was the elegant navy blue dress sported winningly by one of H&M’s lovely PR girls, for a more subtle take on sparkle sprinkled only on the Peter Pan collar. Jackets rule! There were so many great jackets to throw over day dresses and structured trousers that I was left wishing for the cooler days that I know are still very far away. To remedy this, use a stylists’ trick: just wear the coat thrown over your shoulders when it is too hot to really put it on. That way you can still sport the style without sweating a drop. Sneaky, right?!

When in doubt, add more jewellery. Just like in the 80s, when it was impossible to be “overdone”, large and in charge is back. Glasses, handbags and heels were all about getting you noticed, with exaggerated shapes, metallic gold hues, chunky Lucite heels and laces. You can now accessorize head to heel.

And the best part is that you know with H&M, it’s always affordable. You can get a whole new wardrobe for this season and still have money in the bank for when the proper fall/winter collections hit stores. Thanks H&M, for keeping us looking bewitching for barely any bucks!
