Sassy scopes out Hong Kong’s newest eateries

Because Hong Kong’s dining scene is ever changing, we want to give you a head’s up on all the latest restaurants that have opened in our beloved city. From contemporary fine dining to Michelin-starred menus, here’s what’s new in the 852.

 

Le 39V

Sitting high above the chaos on the 101st floor in the ICC building is the new Le 39V. Award winning Chef Frédéric Vardon opened the Hong Kong edition of his Michelin-starred restaurant, and will feature a lunch and dinner menu with signature dishes meant to mirror a fine Parisian dining experience. Keep an eye out for Caviar Kristal Gold- Maison Kaviari, ‘Niçoise Style’ Red Mullet, John Dory from Britanny, Farmhouse Lamb (roasted rack and confit shoulder), Le 39V Soufflés and much more.

AZIZA

Hot off the presses! Set to open 20 July, this Egyptian food restaurant will be featuring Egyptian and Middle Eastern fare. It doesn’t have a Web site or Facebook page yet, but keep checking back here for more info!

HAKU

HAKU

Set to open in July, this TST new resto will have serve up Japanese-European dishes made from fresh ingredients brought in straight from Japan. Hideaki Matsuo, (who is the owner and grand chef of 3-Michelin starred Osaka restaurant Kashiwaya), inspired the concept of HAKU. Heading up the team is Executive Chef Agustin Balbi. The restaurant will have an open seating plan surrounding the kitchen so guests can watch as their meals are prepared.

Ssal Bori Ssal

The first-ever Korean makgeolli restaurant in Hong Kong has opened in HK! Featuring authentic Korean dishes paired with a variety of makgeolli (a slightly sweet alcoholic beverage, native to Korea and made from rice or wheat). With three different categories – original, flavoured and premium – the dishes on hand include Ji Pyung Fresh Makgeolli, ong Myung Sub Fresh Makgeolli, and Boksoondoga Makgeolli.

Terroir Parisien

The Epicurean Group has teamed up with France’s Yannick Alléno Group to bring a new French Bistro, Terroir Parisien, to Hong Kong next month, and we can’t wait for the mid-July opening! Showcasing traditional French food in the form of classic Parisian bistro recipes, the food on hand will be seasonal in nature, made from imported and local produce.French Chef Alléno will be whipping up dishes that are influenced by his Parisian roots; some things to keep your eye out for: Parisian Mushroom Stuffed with Snails, Lamb Stew & Spring Vegetables in a Casserole, ‘Nanterre’ Brioche French toast with Vanilla Ice-cream, and the signature Charcuterie Boards. The restaurant will have an open kitchen facing a large bar to create a lively vibe.

FERA

Tipping Point Brewing Co has just opened FERA, an Italian restaurant and bar featuring minimal and rustic dishes with an Italian-British flair.

Wolfgang’s Steakhouse Hong Kong

This boutique style steakhouse has already gotten steak lovers very excited. With its flagship in NYC, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse Hong Kong is headed by Wolfgang Zweiner, former head waiter of the acclaimed New York steakhouse, Peter Luger’s. Featuring its world-famous Porterhouse Steak, its menu will offer only USDA Prime Beef 28 days dry aged beef, and include surf and turf options to delight the most indulgent guest!

Picada

Picada, Hong Kong’s first pan-Latin restaurant, opened its doors atop LKF29 at 29 Wyndham Street. Introducing Latin culture to Hong Kong, chef Abel Ortiz Alvarez (hailing from Peru!), will be creating fresh dishes of empanadas and arepas that are perfect for any event. The terrace also overlooks the nightlife below, so you can easily people watch as you catch up with friends.

Alvy's

Alvy’s

Evoking the mood of a classic NYC neighbourhood bar, Alvy’s strives to be cosy and welcoming. The bar and pizzeria features a selection of directly imported local beers from New York City area breweries and uses it’s own signature sourdough base. The menu features the “Ma-La-Di-Da,” a Sichuan take on the pepperoni pizza, and “a la Vodka,” a NYC staple, featuring a creamy and tangy vodka sauce with pecorino.

Tai Hang Bar & Grill

Tai Hang Bar & Grill has introduced a food menu that includes a mixture of Asian favourites (Singapore noodles and Kung Pao fried rice) as well as some classic pasta, pizza and burger dishes. Its drinks feature a selection of milkshakes, mocktails and fruit juices. Call 2525 1439 to make reservations.

Matsunichi Hong Kong

Matsunichi

Located in between Kai Tak and Kowloon Bay, this new Japanese restaurant serves tempura, teppanyaki, sushi and sashimi fresh from the counter. Matsunichi uses seasonal ingredients and presents them with contemporary twists. This large (10,600 square feet!) restaurant also houses a collection of sake, including more than 60 labels from producers such as Jyuyondai, Isojiman, and Kokuryu. Led by Executive Chef Masaki Nishioka, Matsunichi’s culinary team has been assembled with chefs from Japan; Chef Jiro Fukuda heads the tempura counter, and Chef Hirofumi Chiba leads the sushi station.

MAN TAI 47

Hung Hom girls, go check out the new kid in town. MAN TAI 47 brings the fusion of Asia and Spain to your area, offering hearty dishes such as its Signature Paella ($118), a slowly cooked rice dish enhanced with fresh, seasonal seafood and rich Chinese sausage, or Pulpo a la Gallega ($188), a centuries-old, Spanish Galician dish with just four ingredients: octopus, olive oil, paprika and salt. And good news for the breakfast-all-day lovers: it has a set breakfast for $88 and set lunch from $53.
