Downton Abbey meets the NYC prohibition era at Foxglove‘s sophisticated speakeasy. Suave and fit to satisfy globetrotters, foodies and cocktails connoisseurs alike, this hidden gem in Central delights with its umbrella storefront disguise. And with the pull of a gold duck head in the umbrella bin next to the concierge, the wall slides open and and you’re transported back in time.

With an extensive list of refined cocktails and full lunch and dinner menus, Foxglove boasts four different rooms – complete with a hidden library! With dim light and low chatter filling the air, this place felt ridiculously cool without an ounce of desperation.

A vintage push cart is wheeled to your table where martinis are made to suit individual tastes and the French bistro-inspired menu is sophisticated yet hearty. From smoked salmon served with loads of dill, cream and a crostini to Chicken Cordon Bleu Nuggets and Pappardelle Pasta with Rabbit Ragout ($198), prepare to be transported! The favourite dish of the night was definitely the Stuffed Quail ($268), which was super tender and filled with a mushroom risotto – a truly a decadent dish.

One for Jazz devotees, cocktail queens and fine food fanatics, immerse yourself and let Foxglove take you back in time on a delicious journey of tasty bites, wonderful mixology and soulful music. I have to say this is one of my new favorite spots in the 852 and will be returning for an any occasion. I could definitely get used to that martini-cart life!
