WEEKENDER: Picnic in the Park, Pawn to Rock, I Want To Be There and More!

4 November, 2011

Halloween may now be resting in peace until next year… but don’t think the fun stops there! Our Weekender is here to keep you busy well into November with all the hottest happenings, so read on!

Rock out!
Back by popular demand, Pawn To Rock invites buttoned-up businessmen to let their hair down and rock out! Headlined by CEO rockers Poubelle International and also featuring bands The Valentine’s International Party and Mr Happy, enjoy the chance to get live and loud whilst sipping on a Pawn signature cocktail (we recommend Chinese Lantern – ginger and lime muddled with lychees, lychee liqueur and Pravda vodka, slurrrrp!), with 20% of proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House charity too.

Where: The Pawn, 62 Johnston Road Wan Chai, 2866 3444
When: 9 November, 8:30pm
How Much: Free Entry

Picnic In The Park
Hong Kong’s largest live music and dance festival just got even larger! This year, Picnic In The Park will have two stages showcasing the best of Discovery’s Bay home-grown bands, plus dance troupes, acoustic singer-songwriters and plenty more entertainment too. There’ll also be restaurant booths dishing up tasty treats to keep your energy high, market booths from local businesses – and the party will rock on well until the midnight hours with Party In The Plaza later! We will be there so make sure you stop by and say hi!

Where: Siena Park, Discovery Bay
When: 5 November, 11am-9:30pm, followed by Party in the Plaza
How Much: Free!

Start your Christmas shopping!
Believe it or not, that time of year is whipping round again faster than you’d think and it won’t be long before HK is filled with fake snow, tinny Christmas carols and people frantically shopping for last minute presents. Rather than hitting up some crowded mall in a last-minute blitz for gifts, how about heading to some seasonal fairs to get you in the festive frame of mind and provide more individual present inspiration? As ever, Sassy’s on hand to give you all the details – click here to read our Seasonal Fairs Guide!

Where: All around town
When: Throughout November and December
How Much: Free!

Get en pointe
Ballet isn’t all frilly tutus and The Nutcracker Suite… and Hong Kong Ballet has commissioned three daringly original contemporary pieces to prove it! The trio – Black On Black, A Room Of Her Own and Luminous – includes two world premieres and promises to be a night of emotional, creative, complex and challenging dance at its finest.

Where:  Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
When: 4-5 November, 7.30pm; 5-6 November, 2.30pm
How Much: $100-1000, www.urbtix.hk, 2111 5999

Be There!
We can’t resist a good party at Sassy HQ – and it looks like Smirnoff’s I Want To Be There Party definitely fits that description! It’s Smirnoff’s biggest event yet and they’ll be painting the town red with a vodka-infused wonderland of cocktail bars, live entertainment and an awesome DJ hitting the decks too. Just remember – don’t party too hard, it’s still a workday tomorrow!

Where: The Grand Stage, Western Market
When: 10 November, 8.30pm
How Much: Free but guest list only; RSVP to [email protected] with an email entitled ‘I WANT TO BE THERE’
