Sassy’s Neighbourhood Guide to Knutsford Terrace

5 July, 2017

TST’s hub of bars and restaurants

Knutsford Terrace has always reminded me of a strip of bars in Milan, Italy: there’s a buzzing atmosphere, an army of overly friendly bar staff trying to tempt you into their bar, and you are surrounded by an array of lively alfresco bars, full to the brim with expats and locals alike – cocktail in hand.

As there are so many bars and restaurants to choose from along this strip, we’ve picked out a few of our faves to get you started on your big night out:

Sassy Tip: Don’t just settle for the ground-floor bars; there are a few to be found on the higher floors in the tower blocks. Do some exploring!

The Salted Pig

The Salted Pig is one of my go-tos when at play on Knutsford Terrace. Known for its pork-laden dishes, the venue features kitsch pig themed décor and chic wooden furniture. I’m a big fan of the Suckling pig ($288) and the Six-sausage Platter ($298).

Sassy tip: Portion sizes are always on the large side so avoid over-ordering, though this does mean your stomach will be lined for a night on the town.

You’d be hard pressed not to find a selection of all cuisines on Knutsford Terrace. One of our favourites is Mexican at Caliente. Another of Prive Group’s restaurants, Caliente serves up the fiery tastes of South America, with an array of Tex Mex dishes and drinks. Take your pick from a range of tequilas and start your night out in style.

assembly knutsford terrace

Assembly is a gastro bar serving tapas-style sharing plates: think Buffalo chicken wings ($98) and Wagyu foie gras sliders ($105) alongside an array of cocktails. The space has a sharp, classically-styled interior with sleek black arches and communal style seating – both indoors and outdoors.

Assembly, G-1F, 6 Knutsford Terrace, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong, 2723 6588, assembly.knutsfordbyprivegroup.hk

Butler is a cosy Japanese style cocktail bar with great service. Think low lighting, a well-stocked bar, good whisky-based cocktails and knowledgeable mixologists. It’s best to let the team here know what kind of libation you’re after, and they will make you drink from one of their recipes. If you’re looking for food too, head over straight after work when Butler serves more substantial Japanese influenced dishes.

Merhaba knustford terrace

I’m partial to a shisha on a night out, and Knutsford Terrace has a great selection of bars offering it. Merhaba offers a range of yummy cocktails alongside shisha, served both on the roof and the terrace. While the sign on the outside conjures images from the movie Beetlejuice, the interiors are decked out with comfy seating and exotic lighting – the perfect backdrop to the belly dance performances.

Club Havana

I’m also a sucker for a Cuban style bar (Havanas in Central is up there for me), and Club Havana on Knutsford Terrace doesn’t disappoint. Think fruity cocktails, live bands and authentic Cuban cuisine for the hungry drinkers.

vibes at the mira knutsford terrace

Vibes at the Mira Hotel

Vibes at the Mira Hotel is another shisha joint, but sexier. Think a secret garden space, lush greenery, comfy sofas, shisha and mouth-watering cocktails – the kind of back garden we all aspire to have. The bar has a laid-back vibe, making it the ultimate spot to relax away from the bustling crowds of Hong Kong.

All Night Long

If – like me – you end up in Insomnia regularly, this one is for you, too.  All Night Long is the perfect spot for dancing the night away to a backdrop of live music and a cracking happy hour.

Wildfire is a top spot for pizza along Knutsford Terrace. Think: Napoletana-inspired, thin crust pizza, calzone, risotto – you name it – washed down with a crisp glass of white wine. With outlets across Hong Kong, Wildfire is a consistent pizza spot, and we’d definitely recommend it for pre-drink or post-drink dins.

Joe’s Billiards

After a few drinks, I like to think I’m a bit of a pool pro. Offering experts and novices a two-storey pool and darts club along with drinks – Joe’s Billiards is the place to show off your skills (or lack thereof!)

yuu sushi knutsford terrace

When in Knutsford Terrace, you’ve got to check out the sushi! Be prepared to dine on authentic Japanese yakitori and sushi in a setting that transports diners to Kyoto, Japan. We recommend the Grilled prawn roll with chicken skin and the Assorted yakitori.

If you’re feeling peckish at the end of your night out, there’s a host of offerings to stumble into. Korean BBQ is a must-do here. There are so many to choose from: Chum Chum Mi for Korean fried chicken, Myung Ga Korean Restaurant for Korean food with a view and Seorae for authentic Korean BBQ.
