Beach getaway at Fusion Maia Da Nang!

12 November, 2014
For all of us Sassy girls who like to be pampered now and then, we can hardly complain about the sheer number of spas and salons in Hong Kong – from the Mandarin Spa to Flawless to Sense of Touch, the choices are endless! But often, the serene, sensei-like state you’re in at the spa is immediately replaced with a pang of frustration the second you step back out into Hong Kong’s crowded streets. So when I got the chance to check out the new Fusion Maia Da Nang, with all-inclusive spa treatments situated on a picture-perfect tranquil beach setting, it’s safe to say I had my bags packed and was on a plane lickety-split!

Fusion Maia is located in Da Nang, a quiet beach town on the southern coast of Vietnam. I’d never heard of this city before and went in with very few expectations, but I was blown away by how much I fell in love with it after just a few days. The charming town has everything, from a beautiful beach to vibrant nightlife to fun activities and attractions, and luckily it hasn’t made it big on the tourist radar yet so it really is a perfect paradise!

With the addition of Fusion Maia’s gorgeous resort right smack on the central coast line, I can see Da Nang quickly rising in popularity, so I would definitely recommend grabbing a quick weekend getaway if you can before the word gets out!

9. Fusion Maia Da Nang - Spa 1The Setting
Encompassing 86 villas in total, the Fusion Maia Da Nang sits directly on the beach, so you can choose whether to dip your toes in the ocean or take a swim in the resort’s infinity pool, all the while soaking in the tropical palm tree setting and round-the-clock five-star service. We went for a refreshing swim on our first day and indulged in breakfast on the beach the next day (daily breakfasts are included in the room rate) to get the best of both worlds. The Fusion Maia is also centrally located, so you can easily get a cab to the nearby Marble Mountains and downtown Danang, or use the free shuttle service to Hoi An Town, a delightfully-preserved riverside trading port filled with cute shops and restaurants. The resort also owns their own Fusion Cafe in Hoi An, which serves as an easy base for guests to rent bicycles and explore the town on their own. Riding bikes at dusk amongst the lantern-lit lanes and riverfront shops in Hoi An was definitely a highlight of our trip and a great way to observe the local culture and watch the town turn from day to night.

26.Fusion Maia Da Nang - Pool Villa 1The Rooms
Villas at Fusion Maia are beautifully-appointed, encompassing 80 pool villas, 4 spa villas and 2 grand beach villas if you’re really looking to splurge. All rooms include their own private pool and lounge area – perfect for couples and honeymooners looking for a more intimate setting. The rooms are incredibly spacious (almost too spacious for two people!) and feature state-of-the-art modern amenities, including a swivel flat-screen TV, a double vanity with his and hers toiletries, a sunken, extra-large bathtub, rain shower and even iPads with pre-loaded playlists.

18.Fusion Maia Da Nang - Spa 9The Spa
Of course, the Maia Spa is the main attraction of the resort, and probably where you’ll be spending a good chunk of your holiday! The spa is equipped with more than 50 wellness specialists, and offers a range of healing massages, wraps, facials, body scrubs, manicures, pedicures, and even tai chi stretching. The all-inclusive spa concept is all about promoting natural and healthy living, and trust me, after a few sessions of free massages and manicures, you’ll be all aboard the “wellness” train! I opted for a natural living massage and facial the first night, and a warm pressure sleep therapy massage and pedicure the second night, with an additional manicure thrown in in-between!

You simply book your confirmed spa treatments the day before, and depending on availability, you can request additional spa treatments at night at no extra charge. Talk about the ultimate primp-and-pamper holiday! The treatments range from 30-90 minutes depending on the type, all taking place in a 5-star spa setting with experienced therapists. Although there were many hotel guests coming in and out for their free treatments, the spa still felt completely relaxed and serene, and I could gladly have spent many more evenings there trying out all the different spa varieties!

in Fusion MaiaHealth & Wellness
Fusion Maia’s health & wellness concept extends beyond its award-winning spa to encompass a full range of holistic activities, including yoga, meditation, tai chi and breathing. They also offer workshops such as natural remedies, making salt scrubs, blending aromatherapy and tea appreciation – most of these carried out in an intimate, candle-light setting to promote peace and inner well-being. From morning yoga classes to a mindful meditation session, I took full advantage of the resort’s many health & wellness offerings, and could feel a significant change in both my mental state and physical state after just two days – I truly didn’t want to leave by the end! In addition to daily natural living classes for guests, the resort also offers “Fusionistas” who are able to create a customised stay for you and help you make the most of your trip, which is a great personal touch.

All of the fitness sessions at Fusion Maia plus a good range of outdoor activities available in Da Nang means you’ll need plenty of food to fuel your day, and Fusion’s F&B outlets are right up there with its 5-star facilities and service. Breakfast is included daily and can be enjoyed “any time, any place”, whether it’s in the Five Dining Room, poolside at Fresh, in-room dining, Fusion Cafe or in a private tent on the beach (this last one is a definite must, but make sure you reserve one day in advance!). For our second breakfast, we enjoyed the a la carte buffet at Five, which has a great selection of local and international varieties, including cereals, baked goodies, fresh fruit, cold cuts, smoothies, curries, fried rice, steamed vegetables, congee, and of course, pho. In Hoi An, we had lunch at the Fusion Cafe, which was one of my favourite meals of the trip: fresh spring rolls, local noodles, slow-cooked pork and fresh fish – the perfect meal to fuel up for our afternoon bike ride!

With daily spa treatments, health and wellness workshops, breakfasts on the beach and an infinity pool, there’s plenty to keep you occupied at Fusion Maia during your stay, but here are a few other recommended attractions/activities to slot in when you can!

  • Rent a scooter and ride around the island, stopping to see the Lady Buddha (you can’t miss it!)
  • Ride bikes around Hoi An, and take a boat ride down the river
  • Climb up to the peak of the Marble Mountains
  • Head into downtown Danang and try out some local food like the city’s signature mi quang noodles!
  • Watch the fire-breathing show at Dragon Bridge on the weekends
  • Enjoy a seafood feast on one of the beachside open-air food stalls

Enjoy your trip to Danang!
