Check out these cool and must-visit exhibitions around town!

Oh, March, what a great month you are in Hong Kong. We’ve just had Taste Festival and now Art Central is just around the corner along with just about every other kind of event in between. Oh, Hong Kong, we love you so! We take on a big responsibility over here at Sassy HQ, making sure you all know the best events and exhibitions going on around the city every week, and we are never one’s to let you down. So this week we are presenting to you two of our ‘must-see’ exhibitions, and they are both happening in LKF in just a few days:

Life is Beautiful – Solo Exhibition by Mr. Brainwash

Mr. Brainwash has become somewhat of a celebrity in recent years (thanks to the likes of Rita Ora letting him throw paint at her white dress during a performance) and we are so excited his solo exhibition is hitting HK. Mr. Brainwash (often written MBW) is a name used by French-born, Los Angeles-based filmmaker and street artist Thierry Guetta. According to the 2010 Banksy-directed film Exit Through the Gift Shop, Guetta was first introduced to street art by his cousin, the street artist Invader, who filmed street artists through the 2000s and “evolved” into an artist in his own right in a matter of weeks after an off-hand suggestion from Banksy. His work sold for five-figure sums at his self-financed debut exhibition opening, and we’re not ones to miss out on all the hype, so will be down there checking out this exhibition hoping not to get paint thrown over us (actually, that could be quite fun).

When: Monday, 21 March – Wednesday, 30 March, 6pm-late
Where: LG, 17-22 Lan Kwai Fong, Central, Hong Kong

Lies and Light – Solo Exhibition by Javier Martin

This stunning solo pop-up show by artist Javier Martin, showcases artwork spanning 10 years of his career for his’ first ever solo show in Asia. Lies and Light will feature works from Martins’ Blindness collection, which explores superficial perceptions of what is beautiful and valuable, in contrast with questioning what is ‘genuine beauty’, self-reflection and truth. Martin, originally from Spain, is globally renowned for his art which discusses complex social themes and ideas. Having developed a passion for creative expression since childhood. A massive fan and contributor to Art Basel in Miami, he is extremely excited about bringing his work to Hong Kong and its residents.

When: Saturday, 26 March – Saturday, 2 April
Where: Loft 22, 22/F, California Tower, Lan Kwai Fong, Central, Hong Kong
