We’re continuously spoilt in Hong Kong – from the stunning views and bright city lights to endless eateries, brunches and memorable (for the most part!) nights out. We’re so lucky to be able to step out of the front door, hop on public transport and be surrounded by the wilderness. And with an obvious and ever growing love for weekend hikes, we city-dwellers leap at the chance to get back to nature and away from our busy schedules.
Living day to day swept up in the rat race, we’re creatures of habit and not always up to speed on the hundreds of awesome outdoor events that go on in this city. Regardless of fitness level though, there’s always something for someone to take part in. So, whether you’re looking to discover and explore or have personal fitness goals in mind, we’e easing you in gently with 10 awesome races under 10km… see you at the finish line, girls!
Running (quite literally) since 1982, AVOHK has since been tirelessly organising events for active Hong Kongers of all ages! Their 5K series is the perfect introductory run for those looking to increase their fitness levels and explore the concrete jungle on foot.
When: Saturday, 10 September and Saturday, 24 September (8am). Keep your eye out for their monthly 5k races throughout the year too!

Distance: 5km
How much: $150 per race for non-AVOHK members. Be sure to register beforehand as they’e unable to accept day-of entries!
A legendary event, the Sedan Chair Race brings companies and colleagues together in a tiring team-bonding session that combines fun with sweat and quite possibly tears! Famed for having racers dress in crazy costumes as they sprint up The Peak, the race has raised over $68 million Hong Kong dollars and aided over 134 charities in its time.

Head across the water and dive into a 10km run on Discovery Bay as you race to beat last year’s grand total of $180,000 – all in aid of the fantastic charity, Food Angel!

Not a competitive bone in your body? This laid-back fundraiser is perfect for those who are on the hunt for a chilled day out and about. Choose from a 3k, 5k or 10k and work your way towards the finish line, grab yourself a hot dog and do your part for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Have you ever woken up and thought – hey, I fancy running up Hong Kong’s tallest building today…
Well, here’s your chance! The Vertical Run takes you all the way up ICC, ending at SKY100’s observation deck. A heart-pounding 2,120 steps to the top, brave this one solo or rope in your friends to form a relay, tag team!

Oh yes, girls, the holiday season is coming up fast and it’s time to start looking ahead to Christmas! We’re all big fans of the annual Santa Con that sees us working our way through Hong Kong’s watering holes dressed as the big man himself, but why not save the suit (and some calories) and join over 1,500 Santas in 1k, 3k or 8k run for charity along Pak Shek Kok Promenade?
