Summer Wedding Outfits

12 May, 2010

Earlier this week I wrote my (in retrospect maybe slightly strict) rules about summer wedding dressing! Now we’re suggesting some outfits for the different kinds of wedding you might be invited too…

The Boho Beach Wedding
You’re heading off to a wedding on the beach in Phuket… what could be more wonderful? Well, beach weddings are often tricky sartorially – there’s the problem of all that sand for a start which kind of messes up wearing heels, and you could also be a bit of a sunburned and frazzled mess by the end of the ceremony! Wearing a long maxi dress will give you a bit of glamour if you need to go barefoot at any time, and has the added benefit of covering up delicate knees and feet from sunburn. Pack a lightweight shawl to protect your shoulders, and a pair of wedges for the evening and you’ll be golden.  Plus, don’t forget deodorant wipes to slip into your clutch – you can pick some up at SaSa before you leave for the airport.

The Stylish City Wedding
The invitation has arrived to the wedding of the year, and implies you need to dress to impress! It’s time to try out that most fun of wedding guest accessories, the fascinator! Accessorize in IFC Mall has a fab selection, which you can build your whole outfit around. I love this peacock feather one, though if you’re superstitious, peacock feathers are supposed to represent the evil eye. Perhaps perfect for the wedding of your ex?! A more structured clutch will dress up an outfit, and the dress would be suitable for a black tie affair.

The Casual Country Wedding
The bride and groom are laid-back and want a relaxed and intimate wedding – that’s all very well, but how do you ensure you don’t misinterpret this and show up either too scruffy or hideously over-dressed? Choose a bright and colourful summer frock (this one actually has little shoulder panels which stop the dress just short of being strapless which is great for a church ceremony). Neutral accessories look chic, and a high heel ensure that you don’t be too dressed down. For a young feel, bright Raybans and feather earrings give a bit of extra personality to the look.

Boho Beach Look: Earrings from Leslie Danzis; Floral Maxi Dress by Moschino Cheap & Chic; Ikat Shawl; Calypso Clutch; L.A.M.B. heels; Bangles; Cocktail Ring.
City Wedding Look: Feather Headband; Dolce & Gabbana Dress; Kotur Clutch; Christian Louboutin Shoes.
Country Wedding Look: Raybans; Modcloth Dress; Feather Earrings; Kurt Geiger Shoes; Mar y Sol Opal Clutch.
