Songs for Children present ASOBI SEKSU

17 November, 2010

Songs for Children, the group dedicated to bringing you indie, alternative and punk music every last Friday of the month, was super excited to tell us about their next special performance. On Tuesday 23 November, ASOBI SEKSU will perform at Hangout in Sai Wan Ho and we hear it is a must see if you are into the shoegaze/indie music scene. Tickets are $280HKD in advance and $320HKD at the door.

ASOBI SEKSU, whose name means ‘playful sex’ in Japanese, is a New York via Japan quartet who specialize in shoegaze seduction pop. They are very often compared to British bands of the 90s, Slowdive, Chapterhouse and My Bloody Valentine and New York bands Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo.

Yuki Chickudate and James Hanna form the core of ASOBI SEKSU with Yuki as lead vocals (she sings in both Japanese and a sultry New York whisper) and James on guitar. Their music is getting tons of attention both in the music world and among the masses as a number of their songs have been used on tv shoes like Ugly Betty, The L Word and the US version of Skins.
