My Beauty Travel Essentials: Get Set to Jet Set

11 November, 2011

About ten days ago I was sent to Singapore for a work trip, which necessitated some frenzied list making and makeup editing. Those who know me well tease me for my packing style: at least three bags full of toiletries and makeup. Not wanting to repeat my past folly, I challenged myself to pack just two bags (although I have picked up a few things while in Singapore!). Here are my travel essentials.

For the face, I’m using Aesop’s Purifying Facial Cream Cleanser with my Clarisonic. It comes in a handy tube, isn’t liquid so won’t end up at the bottom of my toiletry bag. Travel always annoys my skin so I never go without Dermalogica’s gentle soothing booster. I’m also using Institut Esthederm Time Technology Cream underneath my latest discovery, the mineral sunblock from Bioderma with SPF 50+. I bring my Dermalogica multivitamin mask with me to give my skin a little pep. It’s a tube of marvel and gives me a lovely glow, although it can be a pain to remove without my usual muslin cloth.

For makeup, I stick to the essentials: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer for day, Giorgio Armani Face Fabric for night. I skip primer, the Bioderma sunblock seems to hold everything in place as well as any primer I’ve tried! I picked up YSL Faux Cils mascara at the duty free beauty shop in HKIA and am impressed by its staying power. My boyfriend looked at me with disbelief when I told him that yes, those are my natural lashes and not falsies. My new favourite Sasa purchase is this sparkly black eyeliner from Sasatinnie in Black Moon. It has tiny bits of glitter, is incredibly easy to control and gives the eyes a little oomph at night. Graphic, standout eyeliner is a huge trend for A/W and I’ll be rocking the look thanks to this. The YSL gloss is a delicious raspberry shade that stains the lips and gives that ‘just-bitten’ look. I’m pairing all this with a subtle blush – Nars in Douceur and letting the eyes do the talking.

I love my Anya Hindmarch toiletry bag but Muji does great ones too, with little compartments that holds each bottle in place, which is great if you carry gels.

Now it’s your turn to tell me — what do you travel with?
