Sassy Review: MAC Mineralized range, go minimal with mineral

3 April, 2012

As fashion weeks roll around again and the trends of 2012 are unearthed, we should all be rejoicing! Minimal is back with a bang, celebrating an au natural glow to compliment the bold colours and bouquets of prints lining our wardrobes this spring.

However, mineral make-up is more than just a beauty fad! Quietly creating a revolution in the cosmetics industry, it appears that all brands are hopping on the bandwagon and producing their unique ranges. But why go mineral?

Hailed for their lack of chemicals, oil, wax and dye they also boast favourable qualities, such as radiance and long-lasting colour.  So the question was, were MAC about to lead the way in the style stakes with their range of Mineralized skincare and make-up? You’re about to find out!

MAC Charged Water Skin Hydrating Mist, $180

The queen of multi-taskers, this is a welcome addition to your current regime; perfect for rehydration in the chilly winter months and an ideal replacement to heavy moisturisers in the sweltering summer. For instant hydration and a boost to your natural skin this mist can be sprayed on before makeup application and also prior to a retouch! There are also a range of other Mineralized skincare products in the range, including eye cream, body lotion and cleanser.

MAC Mineralize Concealer, $175

For you work-hard play-hard philosophers, the MAC Mineralize Concealer might just be your new best friend. Giving you a flawless finish to cover dark circles, this was my favourite product of the three. A creamy consistency, it blends easily into your skin and with a neat applicator, is easy to pin point specific areas. Available in a spectrum of colours, there should be one to suit every skin tone.

MAC Mineralize Loose Foundation, $295

With a foundation, my main aims are natural coverage and a bit of colour, so I was pleased when MAC had a broad range of shades with this product (this varies from country to country but the Kong has a sizeable selection of eight). Whilst I like to think of myself as a bronzed goddess, the reality is extra light was in fact a great match to my tone! This foundation provides a sheer to medium coverage, with the perfect combination of a matte shimmer finish. As a finishing touch, I would advise adding a little blush to rose up those cheeks and create a warm, healthy glow (they also have a mineralize blusher in this collection).

The finished result…

Those of you who prefer the liquid varieties and creamy compact foundations, fear not, this range caters to your needs as well. Alternatively you could try the MAC Lightful compact pressed foundation ($400), which contains SPF 25 and oil controlling agents, perfect for when the weather starts to heat up.

So now’s the time to go minimal with mineral!

The MAC Mineralize range is recommended for all skin types and is available for purchase at all MAC counters, see here for Hong Kong purchase locations.
