If you’re a pasta lover like me, then you’ve got to try the delicious offerings from new company ‘Il Mattarello‘. We’ve mentioned them before in our Food News Flash here, but the pasta is so delicious that we had to give you the full lowdown!il mattarello foundersWhat is Il Mattarello?
After realising that really fresh pasta wasn’t readily available in Hong Kong, native Italian Filippo and his partner Catherine founded Il Mattarello. They aim to bring a real taste of authentic Italian food to Hong Kong by creating handmade, fresh pasta and a variety of lovingly made sauces to go with them.

What do we love?
We absolutely love the pasta, especially the traditional ‘Cappaletti‘ (think Tortelini-esque filled pasta). Apart from the Cappaletti, Il Mattarello also offers fresh Spaghetti and Fettuccine, as well as Lasanga sheets and speciality pastas made out of beetroot, spinach, chocolate and with truffle. All the pastas taste beautifully fresh and are so much more flavourful than the dry pasta that you buy in the super market. In fact it’s so good, you can skip adding a sauce and just drizzle a touch of olive oil and a sprinkle of parmesan on top to bring out the scrumptious flavour! Although if you do choose to indulge in the homemade Pesto Alla Genovese sauce, then you won’t regret it… it’s packed full of herbs and parmesan and melts in the mouth!

Il Mattarello have recently launched their gluten-free pasta, and we can honestly tell you that it’s unbelievable delicious. You wouldn’t even be able to tell that it was gluten-free, as it pretty much tastes exactly the same as their regular pasta! You can request gluten-free options of any of the Cappaletti and Fettucine, and we were lucky enough to try the organic pumpkin with 24 month old Parmigiano Reggiano D.O.P. Cappaletti.

The pasta was perfectly cooked and stuffed with creamy, sweet pumpkin. The gluten-free dough is made with Italian Gluten Free flour mix and free range eggs, but it still packs a punch when it comes to flavour. A healthy alternative that will leave you feeling truly satisfied!

Il Mattarello is perfect if you want to treat yourself to some really authentic, healthy and delicious pasta. The Cappaletti comes in at around $65 for 100g, and $80 for 100g if it’s gluten-free, so it’s reasonably priced considering how unique it is!
