Gareth Pugh Opens Ice House Street Store

Gareth Pugh has opened his first ever retail store, and it’s in Hong Kong! How random is that? I mean, Hong Kongers do certainly wear a lot of Pugh’s signature black so I guess it’s a good bet for him, and he’s right alongside Commes des Garcons and Martin Margiela in what is fast becoming the area to shop for your avante-garde fashions.

The store itself is only 685 square feet, and painted in black rubber paint and shiny black tiles, featuring padded leather changing rooms… Pugh told WWD , “Because it was my first store, I knew I had to do something that was very me. So I went back to my runway shows and thought, what could be more me than a black box? But instead of doing something very one-dimensional, I decided to play around with a lot optical illusions that will change the space according to reflections.”

We’re hoping we might spot some of Gareth’s celebrity clientele (including Beyonce and Rihanna) popping in for a visit!
