The weather has been so changeable in the past few weeks – one minute we’re looking at sunny skies but gagging on the pollution, the next we’re huddling indoors as another unseasonable cold front moves in. It’s definitely not feeling very much like spring, except in H&M! After a winter of black, killer heels and studded accessories, H&M’s new Garden Collection is like a breath of fresh air. The store is all decked out in crisp whites and soft sky blues, and then of course there are the fab floral prints in recycled polyester and cotton. It’s just perfect if you’re heading out of town for a holiday getaway to revamp last year’s summer items. Even if you’re staying in town, or heading somewhere cold like me (I’m going to Japan for the first time – yay!) I’ll be packing a couple of flowery accessories to get that spring feeling.
I just love the floral scarves in this range – perfect for wearing over a white t-shirt, or with a jacket and jeans. These adorable little sprigged shorts are just begging for tanned legs to slip into them – there might be a bit of a wait for that! Then this kimono sleeved dress is great as a beach coverup or with high wedges in the city. A word of warning on this collection – many of the pieces are not lined, so need a bit of thought as to what to wear under them (unless you’re keen on flashing your knickers that is!).
If you’re not really a prints kind of girl, there are plenty of strong block-colour looks, including this (above middle) architectural red dress with a flower-textured skirt. There’s also a matching jacket with huge shoulder-pads to go with this, but I couldn’t spot it in the Queen’s Road store. If you’re looking for something a little more directional then this would be a great choice. The white ruffle dress (above left) is actually in a really nice fabric and something I umm-ed and ahh-ed about for a while – I’ve got a couple of hours before my flight out so I’m thinking about heading into town to make sure it doesn’t sell out before I get back!
