It’s as if we’re on a constant fast-forward here in Honkers, with 2016 absolutely whizzing by. We were huddled up, drinking mulled wine two minutes ago and now we’re suddenly planning our summer junks! But before we hit the sweltering summer, we’ve got plenty of exciting events for you to check out. March into Hong Kong’s art month and snap up tickets to Art Basel, Art Central and the Asia Contemporary Art Show to see all the best art our city has to offer, or celebrate International Women’s Day with a host of charitable events. The Royal Shakespeare Company – Henry IV (Parts I & II) and Henry V
Fans of arguably the most prolific playwright of our time, William Shakespeare, will be pleased to know that there are still tickets left for a dramatic staging of his great historic play, Henry IV (Part II). This year is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, so what better way to celebrate his genius than by taking in a critically acclaimed performance from the Royal Shakespeare Company? The Women’s Foundation International Women’s Day Gala Lunch
Don’t forget to celebrate International Women’s Day this year, Sassy Girls! On Friday, 4 March, The Women’s Foundation will be hosting a special Gala Lunch with fine wine, delicious food, fabulous raffle prizes and lipstick touch ups from Lancome. Inspirational keynote speaker Jackson Katz will discuss issues of media, gender and violence against women at the lunch, so it’s the perfect way to celebrate the day and show your support for a foundation that we truly admire.

Join Hong Kong Art Symposium in a day-long celebration of art and culture! The Romanov Ball
To commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Eastern Journey by Nicholas II, (the last Russian Tsar!) The Russian Ball will be hosting a historically-themed ‘Romanov’ evening at the Shangri-La hotel. All proceeds raised will go to directly to Hospice Charity fund, Vera for the First Hospice for Children in Moscow.

Margaret Cho Psycho Tour
Hold on to your sides, the unbelievably hilarious, three-time Grammy and Emmy nominated comedian Margaret Cho, is coming to Hong Kong as part of her global Psycho Tour! Due to popular demand, Cho will be performing on two separate nights, but sadly tickets are all sold out. This super funny female comedian deserves a mention though!

Taste of Hong Kong
Foodies, rejoice! The world’s greatest restaurant festival is coming to Hong Kong this month. An international success, HK is playing host to the first Asian edition of the festival, set over four days at Central Harbourfront. Hong Kong Flower Show
Head over to Victoria Park this March for a floral frenzy like no other. Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Rock chicks this one’s for you! Montreal band, Godspeed You! Black Emperor. is returning to Hong Kong and bringing us all the latest tracks from their album, ‘Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress’. Their previous performance in HK sold out, so be sure to grab yourself a ticket before it’s too late.

Salsa Street Party
The Hong Kong Salsa Festival 2016 and the 5th World Salsa Championships have teamed up to invite you to a Salsa Street Party at Lee Tung Avenue. Shakespeare fans will be pleased to know that another one of his most famous plays is taking the stage in the 852. Tang Shu-Wing brings a dynamic interpretation of the tragic Macbeth, using exciting contemporary production and music. This is one of the highlights of the Hong Kong Arts Festival, so make sure you check it out. Please note the performance is in Cantonese with English subtitles.

The Beach Boys
Looking for some ‘good vibrations’ this month? You’re in luck, as legendary American rockers, The Beach Boys, will be playing live in HK! Performing alongside the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, they’ll be here for two nights to play some old-time favourites like Surfin’ USA and Wouldn’t It Be Nice. We’re already California dreaming…

We’re big fans of Pinnacle Performance Gym here at Sassy, so we had to share news of their truly awesome event, the Pinnacle Million! They’ve rounded up a small team of 24 male and female Pinnacle athletes to attempt to dead-lift 1,000,000 kilos in just 24 hours. You read that right! This incredible and inspiring initiative is all in aid of the Pinnacle Foundation, an organisation which provides coaching and fitness activities for underprivileged children in the city. The 40th Hong Kong International Film Festival
Film buffs will be excited to know that the Hong Kong International Film Festival is back this year and it’s bigger and better than ever! With over 280 films from more than 50 countries, there’s a huge range of cinematic talent to take in. After the success of last year, Art Central returns this month with over 100 exhibits from emerging artists and some of the best contemporary art galleries from Asia and around the world. This is a must-visit event for art week, ladies!

Art Basel, arguably the biggest art fair in the world, is back! The fourth edition of this famed art fair in Hong Kong sees over 4,000 artists from 239 of the world’s most renowned art galleries. Check out the best of local and international creativity at the different sectors, which include: Galleries, Insights, Discoveries and Encounters. We’re excited for the large-scale sculpture and installation at the Encounters sector… whether you’re an art expert or not, you’re sure to find something out of the hundreds of cultural events during the week that fascinates you. Asia Contemporary Art Show
March is the official Hong Kong art month, and it doesn’t end at Art Basel and Art Central! The Asis Contemporary Art Show will transform rooms at the Conrad hotel into mini galleries, showcasing paintings, limited edition prints, sculpture and photography from emerging and mid-career artists.
