Having just touched down from sunny Thailand yesterday to arrive in a frigid Hong Kong, my thoughts are already turning to my next vacation for Chinese New Year! My tastes in beachwear have unfortunately gotten just a little bit more expensive in the last few years. As soon as I tried on my Seafolly swimsuit I knew I probably wasn’t going to be buying any more from H&M any more – for most of us once we’ve gone past 25 we need something more than a little triangle bikini to do our bodies a favour. Now I’ve become accustomed to the idea of spending out a little more on swimwear, I’ve also started to cast my eyes over cuter cover-ups too. Maura and I are both fans of new line Nude is Rude by Marisa Zeman, and now I’m adding some pieces from Diane von Furstenberg’s new collection to my wishlist – these colourful pieces are just perfect for poolside elegance.
My favourite pieces are this graphic shirtdress (above) which is US285 from Shopbop.com, and also this strapless maxi dress (below) which is US295. Both are slightly sheer and 100% cotton.
This little cotton romper is also super-cute and practical (US210), though I do think that considering all these pieces are just cotton, the prices are a little on the steep side, and that I’d be tempted to look at these more as inspiration for a tailoring experiment rather than splashing out. After all, when I’m on holiday I’m not really wanting to be worried about getting seawater and sunscreen on my expensive clothes!
