Guest blogger Polly will be telling us about some of her favourite spots around her neighbourhood of Causeway Bay. To begin, she’s introducing her local frozen yoghurt place, Crumbs!
In some ways I wish I had never been introduced to Crumbs, however much I try to tell myself that frozen yoghurt is “healthy”… More of a kiosk than a shop, it sells the slightly random combination of scones and frozen yoghurt (not necessarily together, although you can get “House Crumbs” sprinkled on your frozen yoghurt, should you so desire). Crumbs is open most days from noon until 11.30 p.m, although I have to admit that I have “casually” wandered past there around midnight and it has still been doing a roaring trade.
The mini-scones are freshly baked and come in cheese, raisin and chocolate flavors. The delicious frozen yoghurt can be accesorized with just about everything from maltesers and meringue (my current favorite) to slightly more virtuous fresh fruit options. One thing I would say is that there is not exactly much time to ponder over which combination of toppings will set your heart alight- it’s a bit akin to my betting experiences here in Hong Kong: up there with asking “What is the name of the horse with the Wonder Woman- style bridle?” when it’s your turn to place a bet. Deliberating over the merits of “Oreos & Marshmallows v Granola & Blueberry” is more likely to gain you a kick in the ankles from a rabid customer in the queue behind, rather than spark off an in-depth discussion with the finger-tapping staff. Anyway, at a mere $28 a yoghurt fix or $18 for 3 scones, I’d say it’s definitely worth trying out and risking a bruised ankle or two.
