Colour Blocking Trend

26 April, 2010

As I am always scrambling in the mornings for something to wear (I’m the girl who always has to pull the entire contents of her wardrobe out before I find the ideal outfit), I have found that dresses are always the easiest option for me as I don’t have to worry about mixing and matching. I can throw on a pair of shoes, jacket or cardigan and I’m pretty much ready to go. Maura and I went to the Frocking Fashion Event on Saturday which was all about how to dress up and accessorize a frock, so now I’m inspired to think a little more outside the box when it comes to belts, jewellery and scarves which really add the finishing touch to an outfit.

One of the trends that image consultants Sunnee LaClaire and Sonia Samtani showcased for the coming season was the bold look: strong and eye-catching accessories to add emphasis to a colourful dress. Another way to channel the bold look for summer is with the trend for colour blocking, which creates a fun look which you can spice up even more if you dare with bib necklaces, wooden bangles and super-high heels. I’ve picked out some of my favourite colour-block dresses to show you – a warning, this is certainly not a look that will help you blend into the background, it’s a trend for girls who want to be noticed (and unfortunately there weren’t a lot of high street options to show though Karen Millen will definitely be the place to go if you need a mid-range price point)!

There’s definitely a little bit of a 90’s vibe to the trend – check out Rihanna’s Rude Boy video for some accessorizing inspiration! Top Dresses
