Sassy’s Guide to Christmas Party Dressing 2014!

8 December, 2014

Here in the ‘Kong, we may not have a white Christmas nor hear the sleigh bells jingling and ring-ting-ting-a-ling, but we can certainly still dress for the festive season ahead! I’m sure your calendar is already chockablock with brunches, dinners, and cocktail sessions to celebrate. We all know that Hong Kong loves a good party and a reason to dress up, so without further ado I bring you my picks for your festive wear for the 2014 holiday season!holiday dressing 2014 - 1

You can’t have a holiday dressing guide without a very merry shade of red, so we start the look with this Marni number perfect for swinging through the season. The shape is wonderfully forgiving meaning that you can sneak that extra mince pie in and leave the Spanx at home. Hooray for dresses you can actually breathe in!

Treat yourself like a Christmas tree and decorate all your branches! On the tootsies we have these fantastically festive gold booties from Forever 21. Moving on up you can don this Dinh Van gold spiral ring on your fingers. Twist a few together to create a look all of your own! To top off our look, try these asymmetrical Rebecca Minkoff ear cuffs and grab your Sass and Bide clutch before dashing out the door (Coco would approve as she love Rebecca Minkoff and donned Sass and Bide during our interview here!).

Paint your fingers and face with a sultry shade of gold courtesy of Gucci Beauty. You can score these products and more at the new Sogo counter, but be sure to act fast as the iconic shades are already selling out… Snap a pic of the look with your retro Polaroid camera and then Instagram the shot you took (there’s a special hashtag below)! How very 2014!

holiday dressing 2014 - 2For a look that whispers subtle luxe, opt for this white Elie Saab jumpsuit. Add texture with a very furry McQueen bag. This is a great way to wear fur in HK, as our temps never dip low enough to truly pull off the trend. The Claudia Baldazzi earrings from Bottica and the stacks of dainty rings only add to the opulence. But why stop at clothing and accessories when your lifestyle products can be just as gorge?! Pick up this python planner to scribble all your 2015 must-do’s in style. Item number 1 – Be totally fabulous… again!

We’re not done yet! Add an evergreen element to your ensemble with these Gianni Marina pumps from Asos. If that’s not enough greenery for you, then scoop up this ETEAQ phone case. The case is made out of reclaimed teak from demolished Indonesian homes and for every product you purchase you also adopt a tree elsewhere in the world. The six-digit code on your case allows you to find your tree and register it in your name (or that of the one you are gifting the product to!). You can even find out the name of the farmer who is taking care of your tree! Do even more good by switching your beauty regime to the Purearth line sold at Kapok, which is all wild-harvested, organic, fair trade, and feels heavenly on the skin. I’m a huge fan of the Wild Rose Himalayan Mist for refreshing the skin and setting my make up (see it in our What Sassy Wants post here!).

For all those rocker girls out there (you know who you are) we have you sorted too! I’m sure you already own leather pants, but if you don’t then this pair from Balmain will do just fine. Keep things polished on top with a structured Barbara Bui top. Need help with your holiday wish list? How about adding these striking red studded Valentino heels to it? I know they’re on mine! Ground the rest of the look with black on black on black,  a textured cuff, a matte watch, and a woven clutch.

You are going to need a rocker approved smoky eye to match, and By Terry can help you out with this. The eye powder-kajal is fantastic for blending and perfecting your look. Don’t forget to grab your selfie stick – perfect for all those party pics with the girls! Come on… you can’t hate on selfie sticks when you know you really want one deep down… Santa knows!

Winter is all about snuggling up in big cosy sweaters, but that’s not exactly a party approved look (unless it’s your own couch party that you have RSVP’d for!). Let’s up the ante of your cable knit by pairing it with a very shebang-approved skirt and for only $390! Python lace up gladiator heels add even more texture, but why just have the lizard on your feet when you can clutch it as well?! Newly launched local label Laykh (pronounced lake) will hold all the essentials for your night out. The skins are sourced in Italy from the top tanneries and bags can even be custom made to your liking.

For the face, try out the new Dolce & Gabbana line available at Lane Crawford. The lipsticks have major staying power and loads of pigment. I love the Honey shade for day and Ultra for night. Another D&G must have is this Perfect Mono Cream Eye Colour. I use this when I know I have a packed schedule ahead as it stays put for hours on end. You can even use the neutral shade as an eye shadow base ensuring that your powder shade on top stays put for a night of party hopping.

If you have to bring a gift for the hostess, then bring your own festival of lights in the form of a Diptyque candle trio. The ifc shop has been newly renovated and is now open just in time for holiday gift giving!
