Casa Colombo, Sri Lanka

1 September, 2010

Stylish, retro-chic trippy and oh-so-cool… Casa Colombo is a very modern retreat that offers a quirky escape in the heart of Colombo. Despite the fact the hotel is an intimate 12-suites small and over 200 years old, the rooms range in size from 300 to 1,000 square feet – we love the space!

The suites are all individually-designed but share several things in common – an eclectic sense of style, polished concrete walls, stunning mood lighting, waterfall showers and old-fashioned copper bathtubs. Imagine 15-foot high moulded ceilings (restored and preserved from the original Moorish architecture), seagrass natural floors and funky mosaics, along with all the modern conveniences you’d expect.

Every piece of furniture, lights and all design elements have been custom-made for the hotel and are the vision of Lalin Jinasensa, the very talented founder, in Sri Lanka. You’ll never have seen, or will see, the pieces in any other hotel or store! Lucky for us, they’re exclusively available to purchase through your own Casa Domo or the hotel’s boutique store.

What, or who, is a Casa Domo? Instead of having a centralised check-in team and concierge service, the Casa Domo is your Man (or Woman) Friday for the duration of your stay. They’re not just a regular butler – they’re your sole point of contact, meeting you at the hotel, whisking you back in a vintage automobile, checking you in to your suite, and lots more.

In terms of facilities, in addition to the selection of classic and new movies on the hotel’s iPod, the hotel boasts possibly the only pink pool in the world with eight, sleek glass sunbeds and three royal canopied day beds complete with headphones, music selectors and telephones which mean you don’t have to move at all while relaxing away long, lazy days by the pool.

Colombo is the ideal spot from which to explore the ancient city of Kandy, or Galle fort, which is just three hours’ drive away and Casa Colombo itself is well-positioned to explore the nearby shops and restaurants of the capital.

From USD 175 plus taxes for a Traveler Suite including breakfast .
