Amical – coffee just got sassy on Sun Street!

20 September, 2012

Fellow caffeine addicts: flog your flat whites, lose your lattes and listen up!

Nestled in a quiet nook along Sun Street (which is off Moon Street… off Star Street… yes really!) in Wan Chai, sits Amical Coffee – a new addition to Hong Kong’s growing boutique café scene that takes coffee appreciation to another level.

Located one floor above street level, Amical oozes effortless cool. From its sun-drenched outdoor balcony to the customised mural on the wall inside (painted by renowned artist and Amical brand ambassador, Peter Yuill, as seen in one of our That Girl features!), this is a spot that won’t fly under the radar for long.

Now, as I’ve said before in the article on my fave coffee spots on HK Island, I don’t claim to be a coffee expert but I know what I like (and I’m confident that I know good java when I taste it).  Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur or have no clue, Amical offers a comfortable space to kick back, relax and develop an appreciation for coffee as you sip.

What separates Amical from other coffee joints around town is the exquisite attention to detail channeled into their creations. Using organic beans imported from Cameroon, Amical’s resident award-winning barista Connie (above, who is an absolute gem) takes the time to treat each and every coffee as if it was a work of art. The result is a caffeinated bevvy that’s almost too good to drink – you only need to see the pics of the crazily crafted Sassy latte or Emma-cino to see that!

People can order straight off the menu or – if you’re in the mood to be wowed – you can ask Connie to whip you up something more creative… like a chocolate cucumber cappuccino. During a recent visit, she managed to achieve the impossible by successfully converting fellow Sassy writer Jojo (previously a self-confessed coffee hater) into a coffee lover with this signature blend – which sounds like an odd mix, I know, but it’s seriously sensational. Jojo is now hooked and there is no looking back!

At this stage, it’s best not to hit Amical on an empty stomach. Although they sometimes have a freshly baked cake or slice on offer, this place is all about the coffee. Nonetheless, I’m hooked – and my caffeine fix has never been sassier!
