WEEKENDER: Meaty madness, manicure bliss, dancing in the dark & much more

28 February, 2014

The shortest month of the year is drawing to a close – but that doesn’t mean our calendars are any less packed! It’s time to bid farewell to February and enter March madness with some of the best events around town… food, fashion and fitness, we’ve got it all!

Get ready for a meat feast…
Calling all carnivores… The Butcher’s Club is back with another Steak Rebellion! Step back in time to a gory 18th century abattoir and get ready to sample a range of gloriously meaty delights – all thanks to Chef Aari Persaud and his team. The 5-course menu will include a tender, 45-day dry-aged US Angus Prime rib eye, as well as fresh oysters and an exquisite charcuterie selection… all washed down with a bottle of red wine to add that extra wicked decadence to your meal! If that isn’t enough beef for you, they’ll also be holding a post-Steak Rebellion Sunday Roast where you can recover from your meat-overdose with (you guessed it!), even more meat! Roast beef, Yorkshire puds and apple crumble… we can’t decide which meat feast we want in on more!

When: Steak Rebellion 1 March, 7.30pm; Sunday Roast 2 March, 12-4pm
Where: The Space, 210 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
How much: Steak Rebellion $1,500 per ticket (including 5-course menu and complimentary bottle of red wine); Sunday Roast $500 (including roast beef and all the trimmings, plus dessert – remember to BYOB!)

It’s just another Mani Monday…
File, buff, and shine away your Monday melancholy… we’re bringing back Manicure Mondays! Don’t miss out on our fab Sassy Sale at one of our favourite pampering spots, The Feel Good Factor – our Sassy Award winner  for best nail salon for the past five years! Grab a group of friends and get an express manicure over a glass of vino, with a couple of nibbles too. It’s the perfect way to start off the week; forget Manic Mondays, Mani Mondays are the way to go!

When: 3 March, 6-8pm
Where: The Feel Good Factor, Flat 201-202, 2/F, Winsome House, 73 Wyndham Street, Central, Hong Kong
How much: Express manicure $140, full manicure $200, full pedicure $480, CND Shellac manicure $450; buy online here, then call 2530 0610 to book your slot

Dance in the dark
If you’re sick of that lingering Saturday hangover that ruins your whole weekend, then come try No Lights No Lycra! Enjoy the best of partying without the drinking and unleash your inner dancing diva… in complete darkness! With no illumination, no instructions to follow and no inhibitions to hold you back, you’ll literally be shaking it like nobody’s watching – and all for a charitable cause too. On the night, all proceeds will be donated to Tiny Toones Cambodia to educate impoverished youth from Phnom Penh through dance, music, and art. Don’t miss this fun and unique event at the XXX Gallery’s underground haven… it’s time to pull some serious shapes!

When: 4 March, 7.30-8.30pm
Where: XXX Gallery, B/F, 353-363 Des Voeux Road West, Sai Wan, Hong Kong
How much: $50 on the door

And the Oscar goes to…
Awards season is coming, and top of the list is the star-studded 86th Oscar Awards Ceremony! The crème-de-la-crème of Hollywood will be out in force for this celebration of the finest in the film industry – and now you can join in the fun at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong’s M Bar with their Live from The Oscars festivities. There will be a fabulous buffet brunch with free-flow Champagne Thiénot, plus award-winning American mixologist Ryan Magarian will be whipping up special movie-themed cocktails and mocktails too. Don’t forget to don your most glamorous attire, as the best-dressed guests can take home their very own “Oscar” in chocolate form (even better!); time to start practising your thank you speeches, girls!

When: 3 March, live broadcast from 9.30am-2pm
Where: The M Bar, 25/F, Mandarin Oriental, 5 Connaught Road, Central, Hong Kong
How much: $658 per person (plus 10% service charge), call 2825 4002 to book

Feng shui shoes!
Ring in the Year of the Horse with some fabulous shopportunities at SAMBAG! Buying footwear within a month of Chinese New Year is traditionally said to bring bad luck, so SAMBAG have thoughtfully waited until the most auspicious date to reveal their sweet new Spring/Summer Collection. The Sambag Feng Shui Salon will not only be packed with beautiful seasonal shoes, but feng shui master John Choi will also be on hand to advise you on this year’s lucky colours. You’ll not only leave with felicitous feet, but also with happy bellies filled with complimentary cupcakes and tea… sounds like the perfect way to spend an evening!

When: 4 March, 5-8pm
Where: SAMBAG, 6 Po Yan Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
How much: Free entry; call 2698 1285 or email [email protected] for details
