WEEKENDER: Happy Hour at Central/Central, Arty Architecture and More!

14 October, 2011

Another weekend is about to begin, which can only mean one thing – the Sassy Weekender is here! We’ve got the scoop on what you should be doing over the next seven days, so without further ado…

Bubbly Happy Hour at Central/Central

Start your weekend of in style with a Champagne Happy Hour at Central/Central. The new store is ginormous (18,000 square feet) and it houses some of our favourite international brands including Karen Millen, Nine West and Steve Madden all in one store. Let’s pop the bubbly and go shopping… we have a feeling this could get dangerous!

Where: Central/Central, 1/F, Central Building, 3 Pedder Steet, Central

When: 14 October, 5pm-7pm

Have a flutter!

Sasa Ladies’ Purse Day is one of HK’s biggest race-days of the year; the race itself is over 100 years old, with tradition decreeing the winning jockey, owner and trainer are given a gold sovereign by a ‘renowned lady’! We reckon this is the equivalent of Ladies Day at Ascot, so get your best hats ready for fashion shows, best-dressed competitions, make-up classes, girlie shopping and photo opps with some super-cute Shetland Ponies!

Where: Sha Tin Racecourse

When:  16 October

How Much: $10 for Public Enclosure (additional charges for special areas)

Watch the suits get silly for charity

The Central Rat Race has established itself as one of the most exciting charity events in Hong Kong, with businessmen and women taking on a series of It’s A Knockout-style obstacles in a variety of madcap costumes. There’s even a Junior Rat Race for little ‘uns and, with all donations going to MINDSET (which supports mental-health related projects in HK and China), it’s a fun way to cut loose from the daily grind – whether you’re running or watching!

Where: Starts Chater Road, Central

When: 16 October, 9am

How Much: Free to watch

Enjoy some arty architecture

Architecture might not be everyone’s idea of fine art yet all our design-minded friends are raving about Frank Gehry: Outside The Box. Gehry’s first exhibition in HK showcases a selection of sketches and intricate models that give creative insight into the uniquely ingenious brain behind the buildings.

Where: ArtisTree, 1/F Cornwall House, TaiKoo Place, Island East, Quarry Bay, 2844 3887

When: Until 27 October, 10am-8pm

How Much: Free

Veg out!

October is Vegetarian Awareness Month so what better time to discover there’s more to life than red meat?! One of our favourite restaurants, FINDS, is doing a delicious-sounding vegetarian set menu in honour of the occasion; courses include a White Foamy Tomato Soup, Roasted Beetroot and Walnut Salad, Wild Mushroom Risotto and… the bit we all really care about… warm Chocolate Cake and Almond Ice-cream. We’re licking our lips just thinking about it!

Where: FINDS, 1/F The Luxe Manor, 39 Kimberley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, 2522 9318

When: Until 31 October

How Much:  $298 (plus 10% service charge)
