Wedding Accessories: Something Blue

2 January, 2015

Searching for the perfect bridal accessories can be a daunting task. They need to be classic so your photos don’t become dated in a moment (that is so 2014!) but they also need to show your personality. Perhaps they should mean something to you as well? Then there is that old saying “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”. Well here I intend to focus on that something blue and give you several options from trendy to classic to help you achieve the wedding look you are after. Maybe these little blue bobbles can even be handed down to your daughter one day and become her something old!

The Jewels

David yurman ring, $50,430; Erickson Beamon ring, $4,495; J Crew bracelet, $1,845; John Hardy blue earrings, $12,415; Miadora diamond jewelry, $1,185; J Crew peacock jewelry, $1,745; Swarovski earrings, $580; Alexis Bittar diamond jewelry, $2,910; Drop earringsBlue jewelry

Let’s start with the simplest way of adding a little sapphire sparkle to your look… the jewels! From a right hand ring to a dainty dazzling bracelet the options are endless! I love these Vienna drop earrings available at The9thMuse. They have a vintage feel but are also quite modern. The art deco drop earrings from Lulu Frost would also get the job done beautifully.

Wearing your hair down? Then opt for a stud earring and focus on another spot for a statement piece. How about a pale blue pendant to wow the crowd? I love the faint hue of this Alexis Bittar one! Remember though the real show-stopping piece of jewelry that you will be wearing that day is your wedding band so keep the left hand free of other clutter to really let that baby shine!

The Bag

Kotur clutch, $9,310; Charlotte Olympia clutch, $9,925; Dorothy Perkins clutch, $130; Kate Spade clutch, $2,545; Charlotte Olympia blue purse, $10,160; Kate Spade clutch, $2,545; Clear purse, $350; Bottega Veneta blue purse, $15,515

While your maid of honor should be at your beck and call and tote all that needs to be held of yours it is nice to have your own bag! These little clutches are too cute not to be carried (and documented on your Instagram pre-ceremony)! The Kate Spade book bags get the word across and would look super snazzy for a photo with your wedding bands on top!

Want something with a timeless feel? Try the woven Bottega Veneta or the vintage gold minaudiere from Etsy. The Charlotte Olympia Ming Pandora perspex clutch and the Kotur Chrysler bag are both perfect for setting off a simple gown and adding dimension to the look. I have a friend that wears all of her wedding accessories (shoes, bag, jewels) on each anniversary celebration and these clutches would look great with other outfits as well!

The Shoes

Brian Atwood pumps, $5,430; Dolce&Gabbana blue heel pumps, $8,495; Nine West blue pumps, $465; Ted Baker high heel pumps, $810; Giuseppe Zanotti suede shoes, $5,620; Jimmy Choo evening sandals, $7,720; H&M peep toe shoes, $185; PALOMA, $7,675

Let’s be honest. You probably picked out the shoes before you knew the dress! And why not?! Carrie Bradshaw preferred a pair of Manolos to a diamond ring and damn if they didn’t look just as shiny and beautiful on as a ring would! There are loads of options out for you to pull a little something blue into the look as cobalt is huge right now! Lucky us! Check out these amazing Brian Atwood pumps or the strappy Giuseppe Zanotti cutouts. Ok I hear you, you want to be comfortable for a full night of dancing but you also want to look fabulous too! These heels may not look comfy but with the addition of some jelly inserts you can make even the highest of heels feel like bed slippers (well… not quite but you can certainly help out the situation!).

If you are really concerned about comfort then please just opt for a lower heel like these two tone ones from H&M. Steer clear of any sneakers or flip-flops I beg of you. You think they won’t show in photos but with two (and sometimes more) photographers and videographers plus a multitude of smart phones on the prowl your flip-flops will be spotted and well documented! No matter what shoe you sport be sure to put a penny from the wedding year in it for good luck!

The Lacy Bits

Agent provocateur lingerie, $2,485; Hanky Panky intimate, $110; STELLA McCARTNEY panty, $310;  Dolce Gabbana balcony bra, $1,165; Agent provocateur lingerie, $2,485; Dolce Gabbana satin lingerie, $685; Calvin Klein Underwear lingerie bra, $505; STELLA McCARTNEY balcony bra, $585; La Perla lingerie bra, $2,155; La Perla underwear panty, $1,225; Calvin Klein Underwear purple thong, $310; Agent provocateur lingerie, 1,940

You may choose to keep the shoe, bag, and jewels to a white palette and that is a wonderful choice. But why don’t you sport a little something with a blue hue underneath it all? Only your hubby to be will know what lies beneath. The wedding day is the perfect time to splurge on some fancy underpinnings so go all out with La Perla or Agent Provocateur. The groom will surely thank you and I bet it will be his favorite wedding gift of all!
