The heat is back… and so is Sassy’s Top Ice Cream list to help you girls beat the heat and stay cool this summer. You may have seen our favourite ice cream list from 2013, but there are so many new sweet treats around that we just had to give you a fresh update on the latest frozen delights in the ‘Kong! Put aside that summer diet and make a little room to indulge in these icy specials…

top icecreams happy cow

Happy Cow

Just because you can’t eat dairy, doesn’t mean you can’t indulge! The awesome Happy Cow hit Hong Kong in 2012 and has been delivering delicious, locally produced, plant-based ice-cream ever since. If you’re lactose intolerant or vegan, this is the perfect substitute. It’s just as creamy and moreish as the milky stuff, but much healthier than your regular tub of soft serve. The wholesome, natural ingredients produce flavours we all know and love such as Chocolate Chip, Salted Caramel Swirl and Cherry Almond Fudge, but make sure you look out for creative mixtures such as the refreshing Lime in the Coconut, Chai Tea and Hibiscus Goji… fantastic for summer.

Order online here and see all locations where it’s available here. $35 for 125ml, $192 for a 6 pack.

top icecreams oh!cow

Oh! Cow

If you’ve seen our recent review of Oh! Cow soft serve, then you’ll know that this ice cream parlour offers up Insta-worthy cones with whimsical presentation and unusual flavours. Located in TST, this place is definitely worth stopping by just for the Instagram snap! Choose from four different element themed flavours and get ready to indulge in a magical looking cone. Just make sure you go on a cooler day, as the actually soft serve can melt quite quickly!

Available at Oh! Cow; G/F, 32 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong, 2886 0448, www.facebook.com/Ohcow.softcream

Oddies Foodies – “We Make Odd Food”

If you ever find yourself a victim of the sweltering heat in bustling Wan Chai, be sure to drop by this small takeaway-only ice cream shop. Oddies Foodies has created the perfect ice cream concoction by combining Italian low-fat gelato with our much-loved local, street-made eggettes (it’s old meets new!). These ice cream sundaes tick all the boxes with their soft and creamy gelato and crispy hot eggettes… the contrast in textures is just delicious. A word of warning though – be prepared to have a slight wait as it’s their only store (good things take time!) but it’s definitely worth it.

Available at Oddies Foodies; 149 Wan Chai Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, 9155 5185, www.facebook.com/oddiesfoodiesSingle scoop ice cream sundae with Eggettes costs $55.
top icecream i see i see

I See I See

This dessert spot has very recently opened in Causeway Bay, serving up pretty handcrafted ice pops and Hokkaido milk ‘snowflakes‘. The refreshing ice pop flavours include juicy honeydew melon, tomato ‘gazpacho’, chilli mango and many more – perfect for grabbing on the go when you need to cool down! Not only do we love how cute these ice pop and ‘snowflakes’ look (another one for Instagram!), but we also love the bright and cheery interior, which has this epic quote written on the wall: “Happiness is eating your ice pop before it melts” – how true!

Available at I See I See; Shop 01, Haven Court, 138 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, 2337 3361, www.facebook.com/iseeiseehk

top icecreams soft creme

Soft Creme

Lookout Mister Softee, you’ve got some competition! Soft served ice cream is becoming uber popular in Hong Kong, and if you want to get in on this icy trend then we’d recommend heading to Tai Hang to try Soft Creme. Soft Creme does what it says on the tin, delivering super soft and creamy ice cream but with a slight twist. They use liquid nitrogen and dry ice create an even smoothes texture and to really give the presentation the ‘wow’ factor. Choice is limited but tempting; they serve two different milk base ice creams, which can be topped with honeycomb, caramelised cornflakes, macarons, cinnamon and even… flamed bacon! We love the original honeycomb flavour, which is sticky and sweet!

Available at Soft Creme; 7 Shepherd Street, Tai Hang, Hong Kong, www.facebook.com/softcremeOne serving costs $38-42.

top icecream eyecream and churros

Eyescream and Churros

Attention Kowloon Sassy Girls, this one’s for you! The name probably gives it away, but founder Muse Leung has created a scrumptious dessert using the ever popular soft serve ice cream and delicious Mexican churros. It may not be the healthiest dessert, but the sugar coated deep fried dough sticks are so sweet and comforting it’s worth going all out just once to experience the deliciousness! With six different ice cream flavours to match with one of the many churro coatings they have on offer, we can guarantee there will be something that catches your eye. Come hungry!

Available at Eyescream and Churros; Shop B1, G/F, Whampoa Estate, Tak Man Building, 29 Tak Man Street, Hung Hom, Hong Kong, www.facebook.com/eyescreamandchurrosOne serving with Churros $32-38

emack & bolio's top icecream

Emack & Bolio’s

Hardcore ice cream fans need to keep an eye out this summer… the multi-award winning American ice cream store, Emack & Bolio’s, will be opening up on Cochrane Street this July (we hope!). This will be their first store in HK, and if it’s anything like its American counterparts then you can bet that it will be serving up outrageously good sundaes and delicious scoops creamy ice cream laden with decadent toppings and sauces. The ultimate indulgence!
