Top 10 Alfresco Wedding Venues in Hong Kong

5 September, 2011

Our resident wedding expert, Sandra from Simply Peachy wedding blog, is back – and this week, she’s rounding up her top picks for the best alfresco wedding venues in HK (yes, they do exist!)…

When it comes to weddings in Hong Kong, people rarely think of an alfresco setting because their minds go straight to the usual large-scale ballroom wedding at a five-star hotel. I don’t blame you – Hong Kong does not exactly boast a generous selection of boutique wedding venues, let alone alfresco ones!

However, contrary to popular belief, there are actually quite a few gorgeous wedding venues in Hong Kong that boast an intimate yet functional alfresco space whilst offering the same five-star catering you would expect to receive elsewhere. So before you opt for a destination wedding thinking there are no other options, check out my top ten alfresco wedding venues in Hong Kong.

Gold Coast Hotel
If you’re looking for a secluded and private alfresco location with a breathtaking view, check out the Gold Coast Hotel. Whilst it’s a bit of a trek from the city, there is an 83,000 square foot garden available for a gorgeous outdoor ceremony with three lawns to choose from, and a marquee that caters to a maximum capacity of 700 guests. This kind of location is such a rarity in Hong Kong that it’s definitely worth the travel… and it’s still closer than Bali!

Harbour Plaza Metropolis
Located in Hung Hom, the Harbour Plaza Metropolis offers a wonderful alfresco setting with panoramic views of Victoria Harbour. It has a private garden balcony as well as a grand European style marquee, which can accommodate up to 300 guests – perfect for those larger weddings.

One-Thirtyone
Nestled in the bay of Three Fathoms Cove in Sai Kung, One-Thirtyone is ideal for an intimate alfresco affair. Their restaurant serves delicious modern European cuisine (it also made it onto our list of best alfresco restaurants in HK!) and is perfectly located in a three-storey Mediterranean style house. Evoking a feeling similar to that of a luxury European country retreat, the restaurant opens out onto lush green lawns overlooking the clear Sai Kung waters. Only 30 minutes outside of the city, One-Thirtyone is definitely a hidden gem!

Ooh La La!
If you’ve shelved the beach wedding idea thinking that it’s not possible, think again! Ooh La La on Lantau Island is the perfect venue for a Hong Kong beach wedding – have your guests arrive via junks and celebrate with them over cocktails, a beach banquet and live entertainment. Sounds like a fun wedding that your guests will be talking about for years to come!
