The Sukhothai, Bangkok

23 February, 2011

A birthday is always a cause for celebration and one of our favourite hotels in Bangkok is celebrating its 20th birthday this year: happy birthday to The Sukhothai!

Despite its convenient location in the heart of the city, the hotel somehow manages to feel like a complete escape. Imagine landscaped grounds with graceful water features, lush tropical plants and a truly lovely swimming pool – it’s more like a zen retreat rather than a city centre residence.

Inside, the décor is contemporary Thai with silks and dark woods lending it a luxurious and authentic feel – you’ll actually feel like you’re in Thailand rather than in a generic hotel in a capital city. We’re big fans of deluxe studio rooms (480 square feet and overlooking the pool) but no matter which category of room you stay in, the service is truly excellent – attentive without being overbearing and very personalised – in fact, the hotel has earned a reputation for all-round excellence that befits its position as the grand dame of Bangkok’s hospitality scene.

Of course, no tropical retreat would be complete without a pool and The Sukhothai has a 25m infinity-edge pool with plenty of loungers for relaxing on warm and sunny Bangkok days. There’s also a tennis court and spa for the complete tropical holiday feeling!

Their 20th birthday celebration package costs from THB 7,800++ (approx. HKD 2,000) per room per night based on a minimum two consecutive nights’ stay. You’ll get daily buffet breakfast, complimentary mini bar, high speed internet and wi-fi access and THB 1,200 credit for room bookings/THB 2,000 credit for suite bookings which can be used in the restaurant or spa.
