I’m such a huge philistine when it comes to dance that I’ve realized it’s now generally better for me to avoid all invitations to recitals, performances and ballets – I just get so incredibly bored, fidget in my chair and generally make a nuisance of myself for those around me! It’s just the lack of WORDS that gets to me you see as I’m all about musicals! Just movement and music just isn’t enough to entertain me unfortunately. I can appreciate the beauty of the art form, but only for about 10 minutes at a time.
The one exception I make is for The Nutcracker, a ballet which has fabulous costumes, wonderful drama and a great love story to win my heart. I might still be snoozing at the pas de deux, but it’s just soooo Christmassy that it makes me feel all happy and warm inside!
The Hong Kong Ballet will be performing The Nutcracker from the 17th to the 27th December at the Cultural Centre. Tickets range from HK120 to HK1,000 and can be purchased via Urbtix.com.
