The Apsara Rive Droite in Luang Prabang

When it comes to finding the perfect destination that combines cultural experience and romantic retreat, it’s hard to beat the UNESCO World Heritage site of Luang Prabang. The combination of traditional Lao and French colonial architecture is absolutely charming, while the ancient wats (temples) sit side-by-side areas of spectacular natural beauty – waterfalls, caves and working monasteries.

Situated on the banks on the Nam Khan river, The Apsara Rive Droite is a new and affordable boutique addition to this cultural town. The sister property to The Apsara Hotel, which sits across the river, it feels a bit like staying in a good friend’s plush, private house.

With only nine huge rooms, each with its own balcony or terrace, it’s got quite an intimate feel. Each room features the mix of contemporary Asian design that has become the hallmark of The Apsara hotels, along with large ensuite bathrooms with a separate shower and bath, pillow menu, and – that which money can’t buy – a magical view of the temples and mountains. Be warned, there are no TVs, but with a view like that, you probably won’t even notice!

The hotel also boasts a private pool exclusively for The Apsara Rive Droite’s guests. It’s worth noting that the hotel only hosts guests over the age of 12, so while it does make for a quiet and relaxing escape, you might have to leave the kids at home for the weekend…

The Apsara has its own bikes, minivans and tuk tuks on hand for exploring the gorgeous scenery, while town is never too far away – just hop and short ride across the river on the hotel’s private boat, The Asparian Queen.

The rate (from USD 140 per night) includes a yummy breakfast of fruit, eggs, toast and croissants accompanied by seasonal homemade jam, served in the chilled-out on-site restaurant. There are more dining options in the other Apsara hotel, or in the town itself.

With a perfect combination of charm, friendliness and privacy, The Apsara Rive Droite is ideal for those looking to get away from it all and soak in the magic of this special town.

Rooms from USD 140 in the low season/USD 195 in the high season, including breakfast, tax, and airport transfers. Minimum two nights’ stay applies.
