Fashion Forward

Hong Kong is such a diverse city bursting with talent in all areas, and after living in this city for years and watching start-ups and entrepreneurs grow from strength to strength, we thought it was about time we recognised some of the hottest talent in the 852. We’ve already given you the hottest male and females chefs, as well as bartenders, and now is time to give a huge high-five to some of the sassiest entrepreneurs in the fashion world. Here’s just a few of the talented women behind our favourite fashion and jewellery brands in Hong Kong:

Jasmine Smith rom Raven + Rose

Jasmine Smith – Raven & Rose

Jasmine (a former Sassy That Bride) has turned her dream into a reality by launching a lingerie brand for the whisky drinking and reckless. The striking stylist has always had her own distinct sense of style, and she brings a seriously cool, can-do attitude to her own brand. If you’re sick of frills and lace, look no further than Raven + Rose for an edgy, yet sensual alternative that’s all about flaunting your natural curves and redefining what it means to be sexy. We love that this brand is far from cookie-cutter and offers something different – bring on the nipple pasties! Jasmine is absolutely owning it with her bad ass lingerie brand and we can’t wait to see what cool collaborations she’ll come up with next.

Jeanine Hsu from Niin Jewellery

Jeanine Hsu – niin Jewellery

If you’re after jewellery that’s beautiful, inspired by nature and environmentally friendly, then niin should be top of your lust list. The truly unique designs from founder Jeanine Hsu use natural materials but still retain a luxury feel. Not only are the collections gorgeous and look great paired but you can also feel good knowing that this artisanal jewellery has a light environmental footprint and is sustainable. We’ve fallen in love with the latest collection ‘Ajei’, which features stunning stones and materials such as Blue Lace Agate, Rose Quartz, Abalone and Mother of Pearl… check it out at the super cute boutique in Sheung Wan at 200 Hollywood Road.

Priscilla L'anson of P'ia

Priscilla L’anson – P’IA

Another former Sassy That Girl that’s taking the fashion world by storm is Priscilla L’anson. Priscilla first started out in the buying department of Pedder Group and is now a successful stylist, most recently being featured on Asia’s Next Top Model at the Fashion Director, so it’s safe to say knows what she’s doing when it comes to fashion! Her first line of clothing, P’IA, focuses on empowering women and features classic pieces with a twist. Think a classic shirt with deconstructed asymmetrical splits, structured dresses with keyhole cut-outs and tuxedo style trousers with sheer panels. We love these quirky additions to classic clothing items and how they can be part of your wardrobe for the long term. Any brand that puts the customers confidence and individuality first is a winner in our books!

Maria Estrada of What the Frock?

Maria Estrada – what the frock?!

Previous Sassy SuperStyler, Maria, is one of our favourite people in Hong Kong’s fashion scene. Her warm and welcoming personality makes her a pleasure to buy from and you can definitely get a sense of her bright personality in her fabulous frocks! We’re a little obsessed with her designs, which are oh-so flattering, easy to wear and use great fabrics like silk, that feel fabulous on your skin. Born and raised in Mexico, Maria then studied for a masters in Fashion Business Management in London before moving over to Hong Kong. Noticing that it was difficult to find affordable yet high-quality dresses here, she created ‘what the frock?!’, sourcing all the materials and designing the dresses herself. We’re huge fans of the wrap dresses which should be a staple in every girl’s wardrobe – this is truly a brand for everyone and we love the inclusive and fun vibe! Check out the dresses at Polkadot Boutique, at fashion pop-ups around town or online.

Pernille Holmboe and Tale Hagelsteen of Chicameo

Pernille Holmboe and Tale Hagelsteen – Chicameo

If you’re a lover of bright and bold prints, then you have to check out Chicameo. The brand was founded by two Norwegian women, Pernille and Tale, who both have fashion backgrounds (a model and a designer – sounds like a killer combo for a fashion brand to us!). Choose from playful dress, pants, jackets and blouses which use handpicked fabrics such as silks, cottons and Italian leather. We are seriously feeling the patterns, prints and embellishments for that boho look this summer, and we love the easy breezy tropical dresses and neon jackets… this is definitely one brand to keep an eye on for something unique!

Marielle Byworth- of MARIJOLI

Marielle Byworth- MARIJOLI

Another Sassy Super Styler is Swiss-born Marielle, founder of her own jewellery line ‘MARIJOLI’. This lady is the epitome of sophistication and her creativity and vision have helped her create some of the most unique and covetable pieces of jewellery we’ve ever seen. After graduating from the Lausanne ECAL for ‘Beaux Arts, she spent a year in London living with her new family, the Byworths. Her two new brother in-laws, jewellery designers and traders, would often consult her in the creation of new pieces, and it was then that her passion for jewellery designing began. Influenced by natural shapes, Marielle’s pieces are truly original but still retain such elegance… perfect for any special events you may have coming up! Stop by PMQ to see them for yourself.

cherly leung of SAU

Cheryl Leung – Sau Clothing

Cheryl is an inspiration to any young, aspiring fashion designers! After graduating from UCLA and working at Lane Crawford for two-years, she took the leap and launched her own clothing label, SAU. We seriously admire her passion and commitment to her dream (talk about #goals). The clothes are timeless yet modern and are influenced by a unique ‘East Meets West’ vibe, which is reflective of her background. Cheryl’s designs are not only classic with a flair, but can suit any occasion – whether it’s the office, a wedding or a night out on the town. We love the figure flattering dresses and the Chinese details in the new Spring Summer collection… when’s pay day again?!
