SOZO Hair Design in Central – we road test the new hairdresser on the block

8 April, 2013

At Sassy, we LOVE finding a new hairdresser in town – so I jumped at the opportunity to be the Sassy guinea pig for new kid on the block SOZO Hair Design.

As soon as I walked in, I loved the light airy space of SOZO Hair Design; perched above Wyndham Street with big windows looking down onto LKF, it’s great for watching the hustle and bustle below all from the comfort of your hairdressing chair!

I also loved the friendly welcoming service I received as soon as I walked into SOZO; I immediately felt relaxed and ready to be coiffed to perfection. On arrival, I was offered refreshments, including wine (always a bonus in my book!).

When it comes to hairstyles, I’m a bit boring and never stray from my trusted same-length-all-the-way-around straight no-layer look. Often when met with this blank canvas of mid-length hair, hairdresser’s eyes light up thinking that they might be able to talk me into something more exciting… but the only adventurous thing I’ve done was having five inches cut off last year!

But I’m pleased to say my hairdresser that day, Yoko, didn’t try and talk me into anything radical, instead suggesting a few shorter layers around the front to give me more movement. For once I thought, why not?!

Before the cut, I was given a special Japanese conditioning treatment that left my hair looking and feeling glossy for a good week or so; I would definitely recommend this if your hair is in need of a bit of TLC. I was also given a fabulous and very relaxing head massage which almost sent me to sleep (another bonus in my book!).

The cut was great too; I had been worried that the layers would be too drastic but they were subtle, just as Yoko promised, framing my face and giving me a little bit more movement. As I left, I certainly felt salon perfect – as you can see from the photo above of Yoko and me post-cut. Oh sleek and glossy hair, I love you!

Sassy’s verdict? A great haircut, fab hair conditioning treatment, lovely relaxing head massage, centrally located, reasonably priced and all with first-class service. It’s definitely worth considering SOZO for your next haircut!

Cuts and styling start from $430, conditioning treatments start from $400; see full price list here
