Some of our best Sassy beauty secrets around town don’t involve high-end spas or fancy places, but low-end, hole-in-the-wall neighbourhood finds that help out our wallets as well as our looks (like out much-loved eyelash extensions hidden find)! This is certainly the case when it comes to the super-cheap Nails 88 chain in Sheung Wan. While it’s certainly not fancy (or even all that clean if we’re honest, though it’s more a case of surface clutter than serious grime), this tucked-away little place has a warm welcoming local vibe, a great selection of the latest OPI and China Glaze colours, and most importantly, the price is right from HK138 for a pedicure and HK50 for a mani.
I tried out a mani-pedi, and was able to get a reservation in one hour’s time on a weekday afternoon, though while I was sitting being attended to girls kept walking in and being turned away because it was so busy. It seems it’s an address favoured by the young models in town who need to look fab on a serious budget. You’ll need to bring your own books or magazines as there isn’t much of an English-language selection, and if you prefer to zone out and relax rather than listen to bustle and chatter, an iPod wouldn’t go amiss.
I chose a pretty coral colour for my toes and a nude for my fingers, and felt that the therapist did a really great job — it certainly lasted just as well as a more expensive mani-pedi, even if I was soaking my feet in a washing up bowl lined with a plastic bin liner rather than a foot spa!
As this is a very small business who could potentially be overwhelmed if we printed their address on Sassy, we’re classifying this as a Sassy Secret… fill in the form below and we’ll email you the contact details so you can find it and make an appointment!
