Sassy Hong Kong’s First Beauty Jamming Special – A Spring Skin Fling

19 May, 2014

The weather in Hong Kong is somewhat erratic this spring and it’s playing havoc with our pores. But we’re not easily defeated here at Sassy and what do we do when we’re feeling, well, a little under the weather? We throw a party! And we’re not talking run-of-the-mill, after work cocktails. We’re talking an extravagant, one of kind, palatial pampering fest with unadulterated cupcake and popcorn consumption fit for a whole host of beauty queens.

That’s right, we are proud to bring you Sassy’s Beauty Jamming Session. We’ve trawled the world wide web and Hong Kong’s finest in beauty to bring you some tried and tested products on the market. So sit back with a glass a vino and allow us to enlighten you…

Kristy on the left was immediately drawn to the Daisy White Range from Burt’s Bees. Kristy’s skin was left feeling super soft and smooth and the daisy extract left her skin refreshed and revived. Who needs coffee!

Leslie is a huge THANN fan and was in charge of trying out their Eden Breeze Range. She loved the jasmine and rose scent of the products and the scrub left her skin super soft thanks to the sunflower seed and grape seed extracts.

Maura, the Sassy Co Founder and Managing Director is a fan of sensitive skin care products and fell head over heels in love with Cattier’s ParisClay Scrub and Eye Cleanser. She loved how gentle and non-abrasive the Cattier’s products were and vowed to try out some of their other ranges. Maura also tried Aphrodite’s Detox Shower Gel at Nest Beauty which was a hit too thanks to it’s multifunctional properties!

Screen Shot 2014-05-14 at 2.38.51 PMTrying out beauty products can be tough work… that’s why we were lucky to have some sweet treats to keep us going! Sim’s Sweet Shop took us back to our youth, providing us with huge jars filled to the brim with pink flying saucers, yummy marshmallows and their signature Sim’s Sweets lollypops. Have you spotted our personalised bottle of rouge? Yep, thanks to The Private Wine Company for making us feel so special… and a little tipsy! And showcasing some Sassy baking skills was Helene with her delicious and beautifully iced pink ombre cupcakes, a Sassy party is never complete without cupcakes!

Vivian was quick to shotgun Philosophy’s Brighten My Day skin perfecting and brightening lotion and was pleased to report back that these products did a great job of tightening pores. They also worked wonders on lightening her complexion too, not that she’s not pretty perfect in the first place!

Of the selection of Dr. Roebucks she was testing out, she loved the Bubs and Bits polish. It’s great to use once a week as a scrub to really deep clean your skin, but she warns not to use it any more often than that or it can be a little harsh. Dr.Roebuck’s products are non-toxic which means you’ll walk away with happy skin!

The Lovely Helene was kitted out with Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective range. Helene fell in love with Kiehl’s Hydrating Moisture Emulsion saying it left her skin “replenished and hydrated without being oily”. No doubt that’s down to its concentrated moisture treatment formula that illuminates and brightens. All this and it’s fragrance, paraben and colorant free. Win.

Here’s Shaneli in the middle repping Kate Somerville’s Dermal Quench Liquid Lift and Make Up Forever’s HD Foundation and Pressed Powder. Kate Somerville is the skin expert to the stars and for good reason. This intensive moisturiser contains rare botanical extracts giving it unrivalled moisturising power that reduces fine lines and firms. The HD Foundation transformed her skin making it flawless and the Pressed Powder set the foundation perfectly.

Dervla is flaunting Rodial’s latest X-treme range. She wants the world to know how great their Acid Rush Peel is. It’s incredible for evening out skin tone – and worth the high price tag! The technology behind it is groundbreaking and will leave you with lasting effects.

We adore this shot of Gaby explaining the qualities of Innisfree Products. This Korean natural brand has a great pore clay mask that Gaby couldn’t wait to try out. The Innisfree’s Jeju Volcanic was “super refreshing” and left Gaby’s skin squeaky clean! All of the products are scentless and gentle on the skin, but as the mask is super cleansing, Gaby recommends a strong hydrating moisturiser after for those with drier skin.

IMG_1171Simran couldn’t help but have some fun with her NARS goodies… who doesn’t love this trend-setting cosmetics brand? Sim’s been hearing about contouring everywhere this season, so she was more than happy to try out this NARS highlighter set. Hello high cheek bones!

Make-up fans, you’ll be jealous to hear that we got to try out MAC Cosmetics newest hot products. Lauren can’t get enough of MAC lipsticks, so she was more than pleased to try out the Mineralize Rich Lipstick in the ‘Be A Lady’ shade. It was mositurising with a slight sheen and the coral colour was perfect for spring. She also loved the coral lipgloss, although had to admit that the lipstick was still her favourite of the lot!

We were also lucky enough to try out MAC’s Mineralize Eyshadows in A Sprinkle of Blues‘ and ‘A Harvest of Greens‘. These handy eyeshadow palettes have four different colours each that are great to use from day to night… Lauren loved the shimmery light colours for highlighting brows!

Evie tried out Boots No.7 Protect and Perfect eye cream. As a Brit having newly arrived in Hong Kong, Evie was delighted to be reunited with Boots No7. which is a beauty staple in the UK. The eye cream is packed full of skin plumping antioxidants which reduces fine lines and dark circles. It’s a classic product that works – which is why we’ve got it on our beauty list!

We couldn’t have thrown such a fun party without the help of a few of our favourite HK based companies. We had the wonderful team at iDecorate Weddings come in to make our office look pretty with gorgeous flowers, glass jars and colourful pom poms. We were also lucky to sample some delicious popcorn choices from Sote, Hong Kong’s first gourmet popcorn company. With flavours ranging from classic Mouthwatering Maple to The Kick – spicy chilli with a bang of lime, we were spoilt for choice!

A huge thanks to everyone who took part in our one and only Beauty Jamming session!

Thanks to Marion Tessier for shooting all the beautiful images above and Anael Darmon for helping us with our makeup!
