Sassy favourites – Drinks with the girls

5 April, 2010

Getting together with girlfriends and chatting over drinks is one of our favourite pastimes here at Sassy. That is part of the reason Sassy Hour was created – we can’t turn down drinks with our friends and we were pretty sure you wouldn’t either!  As we are always on the search for new places to get together with our girls we thought we would share some of our favs with you in the hopes that you will give us some of yours in return. Here are the places that top each of our lists!

Hester: My absolute favourite place in Hong Kong to have a drink out with the girls is Salon de Ning in the basement of the Peninsula. This low-lit and atmospheric cocktail bar is imagined as the home of Madame de Ning – a Shanghai socialite of the 1930s, who has gathered treasures from North Africa, Switzerland and the Orient. You can ask the barmen “What is on Madame de Ning’s mind tonight?” to get the special cocktail concoction of the day, or order a little round of shots which come in a box oozing with dry ice. Salon de Ning is a place for sequins, glamour and a little bit of black magic on the Dark Side.

Maura: My go to place for a girls night out is Varga Lounge on Staunton Street. It is the type of place that makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in as it is so cozy and intimate. It is all about the pin up girl at Varga and when you go part of the fun is looking at all the glam pictures that are scattered throughout the bar. What I love most (besides their amazing martini drinks) is the striking teal blue wall and mismatched furniture that is the perfect setting for gossiping with the girls. The upstairs private room is great for a hen’s night. In fact Hester’s was held at Varga and it has been my favourite night out with my friends in Hong Kong so far! Varga currently offers Sassy members 2 for 1 drinks from 6-9 so I suggest getting some girls together and seeing whether you like it as much as I do!

Natalie: Having cocktails with my girlfriends while cruising around Victoria Harbour on the gorgeously restored authentic junk boat, Aqua Luna, is truly the ultimate Hong Kong experience to share with girl friends. Sipping on cocktails and taking in the HK skyline during the day or night always gives me that “wow- I live here” moment. The interior of the boat is ultra glam yet so cozy at the same time. The upper deck is lined with sofa beds that are perfect for lounging on with friends.

As we are very much creatures of habit around here we really do want to hear what places you love to go to as well. We promise we will head out to try them all since we are always up for drinks!
