Paul Smith & Phillip Lim 3.1 Spring/Summer 2013 – classic brands with a quirky edge

22 March, 2013

Paul Smith and 3.1 Phillip Lim are two brands who know that good tailoring with a bit of an edge can take you far! We went to check out their Spring/Summer 2013 Collections to see what they have in store for us this season…

Both brands are built on taking items you know and love, making them well, and then giving them a street style twist that veers you away from the norm and into something much more modern and cool. I love both these brands because they’re an easy way of taking your wardrobe to the next level without looking like you are trying too hard!

As always, spring/summer trends incorporate a fresh crop of colour to choose from. Two of my favourite pieces from these collections were the pink moto jacket from 3.1 Phillip Lim and the yellow lace blazer by Paul Smith. Both would look fantastic over jeans of course, but why not toss them over the shoulders of your fave little floral dress for a very girlie pairing that is sure to make you smile?! Hello spring!

Here we keep with the colour theme but add more of a statement to the look with one of this season’s hottest trends…. Go graphic! These Paul Smith blazers would work perfectly for the office over your moderate length LBD of choice. Add a chunky accessory to these bold lines like one of Tangram’s bon-bon necklaces (available at The9thMuse) for a fun twist to your office basic.

There is something so delicate and feminine about a sheer dress; be it a pleated floral like this Paul Smith number or the navy distressed lace-trimmed variety (also by Paul Smith), they just scream GIRL! However, my favourite has to be this plaid laser-cut floral print applied over the lightest of fabrics by 3.1 Phillip Lim! How incredible would this be for a night on the town?!

Lastly, for all you t-shirt loving ladies out there – especially the ones who maybe made your way to HK via NY (like me!) – check this out! 3.1 Phillip Lim is offering a fantastic bedazzled tee to spice up your weekend wear. Team this with ripped boyfriend jeans or even a maxi skirt, and then tie it up at the front for a cool street-smart look. I may even have to do a little DIY version of my own with an “I love HK” shirt to represent my new hometown pride!

I can’t forget to mention that both brands also do a bang-up job with their leather goods. You may have seen the black 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli on my Sassy Christmas wish list but did you know that it comes in a Crayola box of colours too? (And FYI, I may just have treated myself to the black Pashli after all *wink*!) There is also a mini version (like the spotted one above) for those that don’t need to haul their life around like me!

Here are some other gorgeous shoes and bags up for grabs for Spring/Summer 2013. These mesh booties are perfect for year round use too!

So if your wardrobe needs a little lift for the new season, be sure to stop by Paul Smith or 3.1 Phillip Lim. The latter even has a cool pop-up shop open for the next seven months in the über cool Star Street area – that means that you can start your shopping spree there, then grab a little lunch in one of the many delicious restaurants in the area, then take the ding-ding down to check out the Paul Smith store in Landmark… What a fun day I have planned for you! See you there!
