Old favourites, new locations: fashion comings and goings in HK

23 April, 2012

We all know how it is in Hong Kong… turn your back five minutes, and not only has your go-to boutique disappeared but another five buildings have cropped up in its place! Well, Sassy is here to help you keep track of all the comings and goings of your fave shops in the 852!

Tiare

We already mentioned that long-time Sassy fave Tiare moved to a super-convenient location on Lyndhurst Terrace, but now it’s opened its second boutique over in Repulse Bay too. So you can go snag all of Tiare’s trademark American brands, including Velvet and Lauren Conrad’s Paper Crown, on your next weekend trip out… and enjoy an afternoon tea at The Verandah and a mani at Sense Of Touch afterwards! The branch at Repulse Bay also exclusively stocks Mischa, the fab obi fabric-inspired accessories line designed by HK’s very own Michelle Lai. Just don’t tell Maura… I’m worried she’s gonna wallpaper her house in Mischa fabrics soon!

Polkadot

Another of our favourite boutiques Polkadot just made the move from Staunton Street to a spanking new location on Hollywood Road. Owners Jaime and Karen are always bringing in loads of great new labels, many of which are exclusive to Polkadot, from the UK, US and local designers too; we’re particular fans of their colourful jewellery selection, just what the doctor ordered to brighten up our summer! Keep an eye out for their Sip n Shop events to check out new collections and meet the designers behind the clothes… and don’t forget to snag your 20% off spring arrivals Sassy Deal until the end of April!

Shanghai Tang

Never mind the fuss about Abercrombie moving in, there was also the small matter of where a flagship store for Shanghai Tang was going to set up shop once it got turfed out of the Pedder Building. After a huge advertising and social media campaign, the new location was finally revealed as Duddell Street – and the new shop ain’t too shabby either! It’s the largest flagship store of the brand in the entire world (only fitting given it’s the baby of HK businessman David Tang), a three-floor 15,000 square-foot luxury Art Deco mansion. Chandeliers, inlaid wood floors, Chinese symbols, leather sofas and plenty of Shanghai Tang’s trademark elegant East meets West style.

Seed Heritage

Australian brand Seed Heritage has built up quite a following for its laidback, affordable and stylish womenswear, but most of its initial shops in Hong Kong seemed to concentrate solely on the children’s side, with only Repulse Bay stocking their ladies collection. Well, now that’s changed with the new flagship store on Queen’s Road Central, with three whole floors of Seed goodness! The first floor is childrens and babies clothes, whilst the basement and ground floor are entirely dedicated to womenswear, including shoes, jewellery and accessories. Yay!

Seed, 41 Queens Road, Central, Hong Kong, 2160 3171

What with Gap, Massimo Dutti, the forthcoming COS and Seed, Queen’s Road is turning into quite the international shopping high street! Oh and in case you hadn’t heard, Zara is poised to take over the huge H&M store there too… fingers crossed its move from IFC to this even bigger location means there might finally be room for Zara Home!
