Nasty Gal – we discover a style bloggers’ favourite!

21 October, 2013

When it comes to online shopping, weโ€™re no stranger to e-commerce giants like ASOS, Net-A-Porter and Shopbop, plus convenient Asia-based sites like Zalora and Zooq. Nasty Gal, the go-to for many style bloggers and fashionistas, is perhaps not the first thing that comes to mind โ€“ and yes, the name is not particularly encouraging! โ€“ but actually, this cool fashion site has many unique and gorgeous finds on offer. Think of Nasty Gal as the edgier, cooler and more badass friend of ASOS, with designers like Joy Rich, UNIF, MinkPink, and Jeffrey Campbell, plus their own extensive in-house line all up for grabs.

Having started from an eBay shop of vintage pieces, Nasty Gal quickly snowballed into a popular independent fashion website, selling finds from flea markets to pieces from exciting up-and-coming fashion designers. Not as focused on the big name brands as many of the other e-boutiques out there, you can easily navigate through Nasty Galโ€™s categories of clothes, shoes or accessories to find the item of your heartโ€™s (and walletโ€™s!) desire. Plus all prices can be displayed in HKD โ€“ no more conversions, hurrah!

Want to see what’s good? We’ve rounded-up some of our favourite on-trend pieces for the coming fall โ€“ and with free international shipping on orders over US$150, you’ll be tempted to get all of themโ€ฆ and more!

DRESSES

For fall, monochrome is definitely the way to go, so stock up on dresses in all lengths! Maxi dresses can be both casual and formal, so having one for every kind of occasion is definitely not too much. Need a little pattern in your life? The greyscale floral print on this wrap dress keeps it interesting and chic โ€“ and donโ€™t you just love how the long sleeves add to the total effect? Meanwhile, this white bodycon dress might just take over your favourite LBDโ€™s place in your wardrobe; just make sure you contrast it with a richly coloured oversize coat to keep yourself warm for winter!

JACKETS & COATS

When it comes to outerwear, think oversized or fur. Try a good olโ€™ denim jacket on for size or go for a longer coat for a slimming effect (the subtle dark green faux fur on the collar of this one is just what you need to glam up any outfit!). Keep up with Hong Kongโ€™s not-so-cold winter while still looking chic with a faux fur vest or a floral blazer; keep it oversized and pair with a pair of loafers or Oxford shoes for that menswear-inspired look.

SEPARATES

Have you seen those infamous blogger skorts? Get the look and update it with a fall colour like wine red, or go for a more interesting cut with these black ones that have longer pleated side panels and would go with just about any sweater on top (instant fashionista ahoy!). If youโ€™re rushing out the door and have a long day ahead, jumpsuits and overalls are the way to go. Jumpsuits can be a bit overwhelming if theyโ€™re patterned and loose, so go for a striking colour and fitting cut โ€“ with the help of a coat, it can easily be a day-to-night look. Velvet definitely spells fall/winter, but keep it fun and go for overalls instead of skirts for a cute, casual look.

SHOES

Letโ€™s be real โ€“ a look is never completely without the perfect pair of shoes, be it flats, boots or stilettos! Itโ€™s great that menswear keeps running into womenswear this season, because this means that we can easily rock some Oxford shoes with our skinny pants and blazers. Keep them shoes pointed toe to look sleek and chic, or pick some psychedelic colours if youโ€™re not afraid to take risks when it comes to fashion! Of course, whatโ€™s winter without boots… and you can never go wrong with black, be it ankle-length or thigh-high, like these Jeffrey Campbell stunners! If you need a new pair of pumps for the season (errrโ€ฆ of course we do!), go for patterns but keep it monochrome for easy matching!

Nasty Gal also has great pieces in their sale section โ€“ and did we mention itโ€™s extra awesome because thereโ€™s always a sale. If you need more inspiration, check out the themed sections and lookbook for complete looks too… it’s time to get NASTY!
