Nail Me: Minx manis, pampering pedis and moisturising treatments galore!

6 February, 2014

Nail salon Nail Me recently opened a new branch in Wan Chai just off trendy Star Street, joining their other stores in Tsim Sha Tsui and Olympic – and I was duly dispatched to check it out! Arriving tired from a children’s birthday party and in serious need of some R&R, I was greeted by two friendly nail technicians, Twinkle and Cat. The salon was light and spacious and I was immediately taken by the vintage floral wallpaper and vibrant decorative cushions; the Wan Chai salon also provides a private VIP room perfect for couples or treating a pal.

Having been seated in one of Nail Me’s large comfy salon chairs, I was first treated to a hand and foot treatment. The pair began by washing my hands and feet – Cat, who was working on my hands, talked me through my current skin condition. She quickly observed my shameful habit for biting the skin around my nails and gave me advice on how to take better care of my digits. Apparently, my nasty little habit causes the skin to grow quicker and thicker – who knew?! Having washed and dried my hands and feet, it was time for a deep soak in warm water and salts, followed by a spot of nail trimming and foot scrubbing. Next, an exfoliation for my feet, hands and lower legs, which made my skin feel newly clean and fresh.

The moisturising treatment that followed was just wonderful. Using a dollop of honey and milk body butter, the girls moisturised and massaged my hands and feet, then wrapped me up in cling film. At one point during my massage, Cat looked over to ask if I was feeling relaxed… only to find me, eyes half-closed, on the verge of sleep – I think she got her answer! Next, they placed my feet and hands in what looked like giant oven gloves and snow boots, and left me to relax for 10 minutes. The pads were warm and toasty, and Cat told me this would do wonders for my circulation… well, who can say no to that?! Once my time was up, my skin felt warm, supple, silky smooth and smelt of delicious honey and milk body butter.

Feeling just wonderful, it was then time for my manicure. Nail Me stocks a plentiful selection of varnishes, ranging from the staple OPI to the more upmarket Channel and YSL (with Shellac, Harmony, acrylic gels, IBD gels and soak-off gels all available too). Getting into the holiday spirit (my appointment was back in December!), I opted for a festive red with some nail art transfers from Minx. With an album’s worth of funky patterns to choose from, it seemed apt to match my red with some gold stars, topped off with a few sprigs of holly. The transfers took very little time to fit and Cat said they would last for up to seven days, perfect for my office party the following Friday!

Unfortunately, due to the smooth slipperiness of my hands post-treatment, the polish on one nail fell clean off the next day. When I called Nail Me’s owner to tell her what had happened, she quickly booked a follow-up mani to save my missing nail. With a quick touch-up, the polish and Minx did last for a full week as expected, so top marks for customer service.

All in all, my Nail Me experience was a fabulous one, surrounded by great décor, wonderful service, and warm and friendly staff. I left feeling revived with super-soft skin and ready to show off my sparkly new nails – so now it’s time to let Nail Me nail you!
