Mr and Mrs Smith’s Travel picks for Festival Season!

28 April, 2015

International music festivals are growing ever bigger, so why not plan an entire trip around one of the hottest events on the music scene? We asked the boutique-hotel experts at Mr & Mrs Smith for their take on the best hotels in which to hole up between sets…

Clockenflap Music & Arts Festival, Hong Kong

Hotel_ICON_Lobby
Clockenflap Music & Arts Festival – shortened to ‘Clockenflap’ by those in the know – is an annual music and arts festival in Hong Kong, showcasing global and regional installations and performances. This year, it’ll take place 28–30 November.

Where to stay:
Hotel Icon is not far from Clockenflap, in the West Kowloon Cultural District, surrounded by buzzing markets, edifying museums and on-trend boutiques. Its attractions include sweeping harbour views, three excellent restaurants, and enough Chinese art to fill a gallery.

Smith extra: a bottle of house wine

Splendor in the Grass, Byron Bay

The Byron at Byron Resort & Spa
Splendor in the Grass began in 2001 as a one-day gathering, but by 2014 it was one of Australia’s largest winter festivals, with 30,000 revellers over its three days of music. In 2015, it’ll take place at the beautiful North Byron Parklands on the 24, 25 and 26 of July.

Where to stay:
The Byron at Byron Resort & Spa shares its ravishing rainforest with jewel-coloured birds and butterflies; make your own nest at this tropical treat near Tallow Beach. A glittering pool shielded by trees and greenery, an excellent restaurant and an award-winning spa are additional feathers in this hotel’s well-plumed cap.

Smith extra: a cocktail each, or two fresh-fruit mocktails

ZouKout, Singapore

Capella Singapore_Bob's Bar Terrace HiRes
One of Asia’s biggest music dance festivals, Singapore’s ZouKout is held at Siloso Beach, Sentosa Island. The plans for 2015 haven’t been officially confirmed yet, but it’s rumoured to be scheduled for 12 and 13 December…

Where to stay:
Capella, also on Sentosa Island, is perfectly located to serve as your ZouKout base. The grounds of the Norman Foster-designed property are jaw-dropping, with 30 acres of rolling lawns dotted with ancient trees, prancing peacocks and artfully appointed sculptures, all just metres away from the South China Sea. After a night of partying, relax at the award-winning Auriga spa.

Smith extra: English high tea for two
