Morton’s of Chicago is arguably one of the best, all American steak restaurants in Hong Kong…

Ever get that overwhelming carnivorous craving for steak? Hong Kong doesn’t fall short on steakhouses, but if you’re looking for a really classic, American-style steakhouse then your first stop should be Morton’s of Chicago.

Set on the fourth floor of the Shertaon hotel in TST, Morton’s has an old worldy vibe with big white table clothes, well-dressed waiters and a twinkly view of the buildings across the harbour. It’s definitely somewhere you could come for a special occasion like a date or birthday if you’re looking to splash out on a filling feast.

If you want to be wined and dined then Morton’s doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the drinks list. There is a generous selection of wines from all over the world and a host of different cocktails for you to try – check out the wine list here. Not keen on a massive meal? Head to the sleek and chic bar to the right of the dining room and sit down to a couple of rounds of martinis.

The name of the game at Morton’s is of course, steak. But first off we were treated to a selection of hearty starters and warm, soft bread with butter.

We sampled a seafood platter which included Oysters Rockefeller, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, Bacon Wrapped Scallops and Shrimp, which was definitely more than enough for us four girls! We all loved the scallops which were so juicy and perfectly cooked with the rich bacon wrapped around them. I’m not usually a huge oyster fan, but the Oysters Rockefeller were delicious, smothered in cheesy, herby goodness!

Next up we were treated to a Lobster Bisque, which was exactly as it should be. The broth was deliciously rich and smooth, packed with decadent lobster flavour. This creamy soup was the ideal way to whet our appetites for the star of the show to follow…

We were lucky enough to try three different types of steak at Morton’s, and they were all perfectly cooked with pink and oh-so tender insides and mouth-wateringly charred outsides. My personal favourite was the Centre Cut Filet Mignon, which was everything you’d want from an indulgent slab of steak. That being said, the Porterhouse Steak and the Signature Cut Prime New York Strip were equally good, the meat was so flavourful and tender it literally melted in our mouths.

Of course, there aren’t a lot of options at Morton’s of Chicago for vegetarians, but we were given a massive helping of veggies and sides to satisfy our resident Sassy vegetarian.

I was surprised at how accommodating they were and they even whipped up a massive Mozzarella and Tomato Salad for our veggie friend, which was extremely generous with huge slices of creamy mozzarella cheese and fresh, beefy tomatoes.

Of all the sides, we were majorly impressed with the Sauteed Brussels Sprouts which had a nice crunch to them still, and of course we couldn’t help munching on nearly all of the Parmesan & Truffle Matchstick Fries!

Although we were positively bursting at the seams from this indulgent meal, we finished things off with some sumptuous desserts. Think classic Creme Brulee with a crispy top,
Morton’s Legendary Hot Chocolate Cake ® with an oozy, molten chocolate centre and an enormous giant Souffle for two, which was surprising light and fluffy considering its intimidating size. Classic desserts done well rounded off our filling four-course meal perfectly!

Morton’s of Chicago has excellent, attentive staff who are always on hand to attend to your needs. This steakhouse is definitely not to be missed if you love your meat, so it’s not ideal for veggies, although they did try their very best to be accommodating to our sole veggie diner! The buzz of the dining room and the sophisticated decor makes it a great spot for special occasions when you want to indulge and splash out on that meal you’re truly craving.
